I just got off the phone with a DVC CM and he said the new rate system has been confirmed by Disney but the pricing hasn't been released. I wanted to add a couple of cash nights to a ressie we have in the BC villas and the rate for a 2 bdrm. quoted was $1105 + tx. No thank you! They're pricing themselves out of my scope of acceptable when they want $3000 for 3 more nights in the 2 bdrm. villa. We're going to move off-site like I suspect many more will be doing and I've never even considered such a thing before. They're being ridiculous and even Disney-aholic me won't pay these prices.

I have to agree with you about the pricing! We love Disney, too, but had to stay off site at Easter because of the cost. (The kids were originally disappointed we weren't going back to the offsite villas!) We are going back onsite this time, but with 4 kids, the tickets are what is hurting us the most cost-wise!

I agree with you about tickets too. For a family of 5 it's a stretch for us too. We usually get ones that don't expire and then use them for multiple trips. It helps some, but that initial outlay is a killer!

I don't know.

I think that $1100 a night is pretty reasonable considering that a 2 bedroom villa is like getting 3 bedrooms. Disney charges around $180 for a moderate resort during value season. Deluxe resort rooms can cost you in the upwards of $400. So, getting a deluxe 2 bedroom with kitchen, washer and dryer and whirlpool tub should be around a grand.

Let me put this in perspective for you, this year before they go to the "nightly rate", the same 2 bdrm. during the same season was $595.

Good grief. I think Disney started overcharging around 3 years ago ($475 for a standard at GF...gimme a break), and this just confirms it. I understand that the Disney brand is huge, but I hate to see the prices become so outrageous and unaffordable for the average family.

Just to let you know, $1105 is the Holiday rate for a 2 bedroom at BCV. It's not that the value rate has gone up from $595 to $1105. That's the normal Holiday rate for 2007.

Actually, you never mentioned when this "same season" is. For the holiday season you will pay $1105 for the value season you will pay $595.

So, until the rates come out you will get quoted the current rate...$1105.

You jumped the gun a little with this thread.

You can see how they are going to list the nightly charges by going on the WDW website. Put in room only dates and it will list nightly charges, looks like a sure thing - weekend upcharges anyway. Won't keep me away though!!

I got quoted $1105+tx for any night the last week of January....where's the holiday there?

I'm confused. :confused: How is the CM quoting a rate that hasn't come out yet? They usually charge you the going rate and then you have to pay the difference when the new rate comes out.

You are quoted the current rate for the end of the year. When the rates come out they will adjust your room charge up or down depending on when you are visiting.

You really should wait until the 2008 rates are updated before you decide to stay off-site.

I can guarantee you that a january stay in 2008 at a BCV 2 bedroom will not be $1105.

I have no idea where he got that rate, but I had 2 different CMs give me the same rate for the last week of January.

Because rates are not yet out for Jan '08 you are being quoted the current highest rate for the room.

WOW. OK, here goes.

THE RATES ARE NOT OUT YET!

THOSE ARE NOT THE RATES FOR JANUARY 2008!

THE RATES FOR 2008 ARE NOT OUT YET!

YOU CAN'T BE GIVEN RATES THAT ARE NOT OUT YET!

YOU WERE GIVEN ESTIMATES BASED OFF HOLIDAY SEASON RATES!

Call any CM and ask them if you will acutally PAY the $1105 or will it be less when the rates come out.

In your original post you noted that 2008 rates are not out yet. Did you ask the CM what the rates were for January 2007? If you had you would know that the rates for January were:

2007 Villa Rates

Value
1/1-2/14;
7/8-10/3;
11/25-12/19
Regular
4/15-7/7;

First, NO NEED TO SHOUT.

I understand what you're saying and am only telling what I was told. If you want to blindly assume that the rate will be acceptable, go for it. But I had cash nights in the middle of my reservation in order to use pts for the weekend nights that were not available on cash. I could not take the chance that the rates were acceptable. If they are too high (in any vicinity of the quote), then we'd have to check in to DVC, check out for 2 nights on cash, check back in to DVC for 2 more nights, back out for another cash night, and back in for another pts. night. See how much jockeying I had to do to get the cash nights (there were slim pickings and I was willing to take whatever cash nights were available and run with it but not with what the CM was telling me)? If I gambled it and kept the ressie as is with the rate quotes and they were actually about what I was quoted, then our luck I wouldn't be able to change the cash nights back out for pts because I'd be running the risk that there were nights still left on pts. Do you get this?

Anyway, I'm not arguing the fact. I am just not going along with Disney blindly anymore. If you choose to, that's your choice.

When the rates are finally released, I'll see what is still available for cash and then decide. If it's not acceptable, we'll not spend more money with Disney and go elsewhere. We now have Sat. - Fri. in a 2 bdrm. at BCV on pts. and then will move to BC in 2 rooms because it'll save 1/2 the amount of money (at this time with what was quoted for both options). This hasn't changed my love of Disney or our visit pattern, other than we'll not add extra nights for cash if these prices (those quoted) remain - I'll leave those for all of you that are actually willing to pay it (then you're happy and I'm not out a small fortune). I have plenty of points to use for a week stay, we just didn't have the pts for the extra 2 nights that we wanted to add this time because we're giving 210 points to my girl scout troop to use in June 2008. I was willing to pay the cash nights in order to allow the girls to use our points, but am not willing to go blindly and say that whatever that price is will be fine.

In my opinion, all Disney resorts are getting pricey. I admit we're deluxe people and have never stayed at the moderates or values. I am going to check out the moderates pricing for our last 2 nights if need be and am sure I'll love those resorts just as much for a whole lot less. DVC's draw for us is the space and also the proximity to the parks which is why we also love the deluxe resorts. Will I still go to Disney? Absolutely! Will I pay extreme prices? No! Until people refuse to pay such high prices, the pricing structure will keep rising. At that point, if I can't use pts for a stay, we won't go. Just MY OPINION that I am voicing.

I just put in my dates and it listed Holiday Rate for all 9 days. I am staying at the Contemporary and Boardwalk, but I just put in for the Boardwalk. I really can't imagine it doubling in price, but who knows. I think they would lose alot of people if it doubled. We will just have to wait, hopefully they will come out soon.

I can see where you are coming from, you are only going with what you are told. I have talked to several CM's and in return gotten several different answers. Hopefully we will all know soon. We have only stayed at Deluxes since our first trip, and then switched to a moderate because of finances. It was nice, not quite the same. I would do it again in a heartbeat though. Sometimes I wonder why I spend so much on a vacation, but you only live once. We save and spend it all on an expensive vacation. I will have those wonderful Disney memories and so will my kids forever.:)

The problem is your OP is misleading to people who are coming to these forums for information.

You state that the new reservation system is confirmed. You also state that the new rates aren't out yet. Then you continue with a conversation about how disney is pricing out families, your in particular.

We all agree that disney raises their rates every year. As do most companies.

You are misinformed by the CMs that you have spoken with. It happens quite frequently, especially with rates for the upcoming year.

When you book a room for the upcoming year and the rates have not come out yet, disney gives you the quote of the highest rate they charge. When the new rates come out your reservation is adjusted according to the season.

People will assume by reading your post (and given your post count of 600+ ) that you know what you are talking about and will use that false information to make a decision about where they should stay.

Myself and a few other posters have tried to explain to you that $1105 per night is not what you will pay for a stay during january. Your cost per night will most likely be around $600 depending on the increase from 2007 rates.

I have always booked a room prior to the new rates coming out. They have always been the highest rate available for that room type. When the new rates come out my reservation is adjusted to follow with the value season price from the previous year plus $20 (give or take) per night.

You have said that you are just going by what you were told, but you are definately following poor information.....as would anyone who read your original post.

I agree that the OP should not have been titled " new rate system for 2008 confirmed." But, I also think she's entitled to her opinion about pricing. At the same time, it seems you're taking offense that she may stay off-site!

I have never stayed on-site and only will when we'll be forced to do so for our wedding package next year. I consider my fiance and I to be "regular Americans" we both work full-time (plus I work another part-time job), we make decent money, own property and homes, and I still think Disney is very expensive...all the way around! I love it, and I'll continue to come back, but I won't stay on-site except for next year! So, I'm always relieved to hear when others voice their opinion about the costs getting out of hand! I don't feel so bad!

Just because a poster has 600+ points doesn't make them an authority. Give some of us with fewer posts credit for having some intelligence to realize that you can't take any or all of the info on this board as the God's truth!

I just don't feel the all caps reply to the OP was at all necessary!!!
