During our trip this week to WDW we walked into the stand-by line for Rockin' Roller Coaster. In the past we would do this and then begin the serpentine line through the metal poles that would move you into the ride. This time it was a very different experience.

We were given a card with B10 printed on the front and had no idea what it was. Then instead of entering the old stand-by line we were greeted into the new stand-by party area. In this area there was a DJ playing music and keeping the gang entertained, there was a tent with several "Guitar Hero" stations setup for those who enjoy that sort of thing, and another tent with more activities to keep you interested in the wait.

And as you are waiting you notice that groups are being called into the ride from the group of party people. We were group B10 (mentioned above) and you can keep track of the groups in front of you being called in so you are ready when it is time to ride the coaster. When we entered the group on deck was like A5 (there are 19 groups per letter ie: A1 to A19) and by the time our group was called it seemed like just minute. I believe there are 3-5 minutes per group.

We enjoyed it. Have you been through this queue yet? What did you think?

That sounds great! I've heard a lot of attractions may start to queue like this

Not yet, but my Dbf is going to LOVE this!

Was the fastpass still set up?

I would love to be playing guitar hero with my kids while waiting for a ride.

We were there for the December test. Had a 30-40 minute wait.

We were there in March and they were back to the normal method, also a 30-40 minute wait.

March was awful compared to December. Standing in a cement, unthemed line with only the back of someone's head to look at. While it really was only 35 minutes or so, it felt like forever.

Especially since December was great. Found a bench and sat down. Called my mom on my cell without having people right in front and right behind me hearing my whole conversation (really this is more about bugging them than it is about them hearing our convo). Watched lots of kids doing dances with the DJ. Fun. And more relaxed. And did I mention I was sitting down the whole time :rotfl:

I haven't heard of this! I hope this isn't going on when we go in October. I'll never get my bf on the ride! :rotfl:

I recall them doing this last nov/dec for about a week or so. I wonder if this is going to stay this time or if it is again a test run? It will be interesting to see how it works out.

Sounds intersting. I bet that's similar to how the new Dumbo que will be set up.

We were there during the December test as well & we enjoyed it much more than just standing in a line for 45 mins. We also grabbed a bench and sat and watched as they did a minature scavenger hunt/musical chairs combo thing (basically the cast member would announce something that the players had to go get from the crowd like a flip flop or lanyard and then everyone had to run back to their spot. after each round one person got eliminated and there was one less spot to run back to).

Sounds pretty cool, I didnt even go down Sunset Boulevard on our last trip so this should be interesting the next time I go. :rockband:

This sounds much better than earlier reports of the test I heard of. The games and entertainment really help the waits go by faster, but I'm not sure I'm 'sold' on the idea yet. We tour during slower times usually so probably will never get to see it in action.

Where is the party area at? Is it in place of the old turnstiles, metal railing area or more out in front of the guitar in the entrance area?

It was out in front of the guitar area when we were there in December. They had some consoles where people could play Guitar Hero over by the turnstiles.

It is behind the wall that is next to where you originally started the old stand-by line. I think it is a part of a parking lot that has been roped off.
