New Puppy

So we went to the mall yesterday to go to a health food store and came home with a new puppy! She's a West Highland White Terrier, 10 weeks old. We named her Heidi.

We have a 4.5 yr old Westie who is "practically perfect in every way", and had thought we would like to have another if we could get one from the same breeder. I didn't even know this particular mall had a pet store, but it was the same "chain" as the one we had bought our current dog from 4+ years ago. They had one Westie that had just come in, and it was the same breeder as before. Let's hope this one has as nice a temperment and personality as our older dog. The two of them have been playing together, and last night they curled up together and slept in the little one's crate. Very cute!

It doesn't matter to me where we got her...we wanted another dog from that breeder and happened to find her at the pet store.

You could always just be pleased that a lovely little dog now has a wonderful home, and didn't have to spend a single night at the store. She was only there a few hours when we stopped in. I'd say it was fate....

Oh my gosh...they are TOOO cute!! We got both of our pups at the mall pet store, a husky and a dachshund. I never thought that I would buy from a pet store but they were just so darn cute we couldn't resist!

Unfortunately - it is not the fate of those that make it to the pet store that is sad. It is the fate of the parents that often live in puppy mills - churning out litter after litter until they die that is so sad. And as long as it is lucrative for these breeders and pet stores it will continue.

I understand that. I also understand that many dogs who are well loved pets are also bred from time to time, and those puppies are made available to people like us, who will in turn provide loving homes. If I chose to breed my dog and sell her pups, that would not make us a "puppy mill"

Please refrain from the urge to post derogatory comments based on your views of pet shops. It's absolutely unnecessary to try to reverse the joy someone feels when they bring a new member into their family. Leave the politics out of it.
