Yes, in nature in the canine pack, if a pup gets lost from the pack, its instinctive behavior is to make noise so it can be found again. When we think about getting a puppy, we have to realize from his point of view what it's like. The goal is to assimilate from one pack to another. This takes time and patience, bonding. The pup has to bond to its new pack, in essence. He is now beginning to do this with you and your family. It's really an amazing process. I never "got" sticking a newly aquired puppy all alone somewhere. Who wouldn't yelp?
