New Proposed Dining Plan is a Ripoff!

I'm thrilled to see Disney shying away from the Cruise ship mentality regarding food. I applaud any move that could in any way bring them back to a quality over quantity POV.

I'm with "Peter Pirate 2"....my family just doesn't eat the way the DDP is structured, so for us, it didn't make sense. Why would I pay for an appetizer and dessert, for each of us, that we just don't eat???:confused3

Do most of you really eat this way every day, or is it just on vacation?

Recheck your dictionary. The OP is clearly using Ripoff as a noun, not a verb.

In my opinion though, noun or verb, it's still not a ripoff as I don't believe it is overpriced or of poor quality which would be the implication if used as a noun. It appears to be fairly priced.

No I am sure most dont eat this way everyday but its vacation and we like to splurge and try new things and maybe have a little more than we should, its vacation. :cloud9:
I personaly liked the idea of it paid for before I left home. To me that was the biggest plus, so in thinking about it we will most likely get the DDP again for that alone, I love to plan so figuring those PS to me is no biggie:surfweb:

alas one more thing for me to plan to DDP or Not DDP? OR to D-DDP or not to D-DDP now those are the???'s:lmao:

I just created a spreadsheet for my family. I added up what we would eat each day without the DDP for our upcoming trip. I did this based on what my family likes, and how we ate last year. I added in tip for any TS meals. I compared this to what the dining plan would cost next year and added in tips for the TS meals. It came out to pretty much the same price. The only thing different is that we would be able to get 7 TS meals instead of the 3 we would probably eat. Plus we normally don't eat dessert so those would be extras. So for the same price my family would get to sit down each day at a TS and we would get more desserts.

I don't see it as a rip off. I think it's still a good deal for my family. Although I can see how it wouldn't work for everybody. I also would like for the quality of food to be increased now. If they did that, then we would get the dining plan again. But then again, we'll see what actually happens during the first part of the year.

does anyone think with these changes that they will offer free dining anymore? I guess if they do we will still go on our next trip but if not maybe we will just go to universal...the kids love it,resorts are great, express pass and meal plan 19.99 and 10.00 (with one ts meal a night). The food is not GREAT at universal but I think we will manage...

I don't think the plan is a ripoff.

I just think they have changed DDP in ways that make it no longer useful for my family.

.

Well put as always JimMIA,
The DDP was alway just another OPTION from Disney that could be stopped or changed at any time. I willing to bet in another 5 years they will have changed the system again. My family and I used it once, hated it, never used it again. No biggie! There are still plenty of options available.

When I go out to dinner I normally have an appetizer and dessert. Frequently the appetizer is just salad or a cup of soup. Sometimes I'll share a dessert.

Some of the allowed appetizers are sized to share or almost entree sized.

I have never used the DDP. I have always felt, however, that Disney knew exactly what they were doing. The price was low and a great deal for many families. Disney is good at getting you hooked and then changing things around to their benefit. Just think about how many families are now spoiled to eating at Disney and expect it every trip!

They will offer free dining if they think they need it to fill rooms during hurricane season.

Trying to figure out the point of getting a meal plan if you don't like the food.

Seems once again we are upset over the Dining plan.. whether it is the rumours for 2008, and yes Bicker is correct, it has not been confirmed yet... and I am assuming once it is official our content editor for the Dis will post it.

So.. closing this thread...whether you think it is a rip off or not, until Disney confirms it, let's give it a break.. please.
