New "Pre- Pressed" Penny Machines

We always collect pennies. Unless I'm mistaken, you cannot use your own coins on these machines. We use pre-1981 pennies (Different metal content, press without streaking). This apparently eliminates that option, as well as having the kid actually create the souvenir.

There are only 2 of the new machines that I'm aware of, the princesses at HS, and Frozen at DD. I highly doubt they'll replace all the old ones with these.

You can find a pretty good comprehensive listing of what's available where at presscoins.com.
Thanks for the info. I was hoping these were only additional machines, not replacements.

Everyone take a quick five minutes and write to Guest Services and tell them of your disappointment. They will listen. It has worked for me before, and if we all write, well...maybe they will reconsider these new machines. We can dream...and isn't there a song with the words..."a dream is a wish your heart makes".....
If they are leaving the old types too I don't feel the need to write to complain. I am fine with both types personally.

I don't mind if they add new machines, but I hope they don't replace the old ones!

We have so many years of pressed pennies, it is my sons favorite souvenir. Watching them press is one of the reasons he loves it so much.

is there a list anywhere that tells where in the parks the pressed penny machines are located? we went back in 11/2014 and it was something we definitely overlooked and would love to start collecting them when we go in April 2016. thank you.

A swing.......... and a miss.

But Tom Staggs thinks people want to interact with technology in the parks so I should have seen this one coming.

I'm sure hoping that they have only added additional machines and left the older hand crank machines!! We are leaving in 15 days and the kids have saved their quarters and shiniest pennies. I don't even want to think of the sad faces I will see if I have to tell them that the original pressed penny machines have all been replaces with automated machines. Crossing my fingers that I don't have to cross this bridge!

I can't imagine the logic in them actually removing the old machines! There are just SO many of them all over WDW, and they cost next to nothing to operate/maintain. Even if they add some of these new (awful) machines in certain places, it seems ridiculous to actually replace the original ones. If this is their plan, then this is a colossal FAIL.

100% of the fun is turning the crank and watching the process! My 9-year-old son has been excitedly saving his shiniest pennies in an M&M tube to bring with him on our trip in November. The new machines don't even let you use your own pennies!!! Knowing that these crank machines may be endangered, I will make a stronger effort to stop at the old machines with the kiddos more this time--I may even get them those pressed penny collector display books they sell on Main Street. Sigh.

What a loss this will be for a truly classic, nostalgic element of the park. If any Disney powers-that-be folks are reading these boards, let this thread serve as a focus group, as you can see the universal response is NOT positive...

Some of these have been around for a while at HS. I like the old way much better. And, they were cheaper. More money for Disney....

Did I read that right (on the page that the link went to)... get all 12 pressed pennies for 10 DOLLARS!!!?? You mean as opposed to getting my pressed penny for 51 cents??? Are they kidding me!!!??? Unless I am reading this wrong... shame on Disney. I'm always supporting WDW... but If I am understanding this correctly that's just sheer robbery. I presume you can only get those coins from those types of machine - rendering them more of a collectors items. I guess this is why some will go out of their pocket to actually pay for it. Collectors should ban together and go out of their way to get a list of pre-pressed pennies to exclude from the collectors list. That may be corny... but this takes the fun out of the press it yourself pressed penny collection process. Or at least - pre-pressed should be in it's own category.

Yuck! I like that my kids actually "save their pennies" and save up their own quarters to purchase these souvenirs. I like the M&Ms tubes (with home-made personalized labels) we used to carry our change and the Mentos gum containers they carried to hold the squished penny. The kids liked turning the crank, but I suppose given their love of touch screen devices, they may actually like this screen (sigh). Of course, I also liked it was a $.51 souvenir and not $.83 :guilty:

Can you tell me round-about - how many pressed pennies those MENTOS CONTANERS hold???

You know, this is a great example of a dichotomy that occurs in lots of places -- is it about the journey or the destination? I mean, very few people undertake something just for the result, but to me Disney seems to have missed the point that the value of the pressed pennies [made by cranking] is at least as much or significantly more about the experience of making them as it was about the result of having them.

Exactly!

I am hoping that they do not replace all of the traditional pressed penny machines. Somehow it became a special thing that my boys made pressed pennies with their Grandpa ONLY. No one else. It was a special that he showed them and they did together- with Grandpa helping them turn the crank. Ever since the first time the boys bring the pennies from their piggy bank and Grandpa brings the quarters. It is such a special Disney memory for them. I hope it doesn't have to stop.

Very Nice.

I'd question, does WDW actually own/maintain the machines? I wouldn't be too surprised if it was done through a third party like the machines in the arcades were. And in such a case, if the vendor decided to switch WDW may not have had a say in the matter (or even cared).
