were due to stay here next month.
iv read alot of bad reviews which im trying to keep in perspective. but the reviews iv found in the last couple of days are that they have a mouse problem, in the bar.

i know they have been seen in mcdonalds, so is this a problem everywhere at the moment?
i really wont be able to stay there if i see them inside. if we do encounter them can we request a move to another hotel?

thanks sian x

We have just returned from Hotel New York but I have seen the reviews on trip advisor too, I cannot comment myself though.

All I can say is we walked over to the Newport Bay hotel and it does need a refurb, some of the paint and woodwork at the exterior of the hotel is not in good shape at all, even the shrubs and plant life appears to have been neglected.

I know the lighthouse currently has scaffolding surrounding it, but from what I saw the hotel does need attention, sorry if this doesn't directly answer your question.

For what it's worth, and whilst it's more expensive the HNY is a wonderful, clean hotel with excellent staff.

Dont take much notice of Trip Advisor!!!
The Newport is a lovely hotel. We found it very warm. Our room was spotless and very very nice. Much prefered it to the Cheyenne (which rates better on T.A.... :rolleyes1)

It does need a lick of paint but Im sure it has to be next on the list as the SL is nearing completion and the Cheyenne has gotten painted lately if I can remember rightly from dlrp magic.

Lovely shop too (bigger then HNYs). The pool was lovely too and a nice break for tired legs.

Make the very most of it and avoid T.A like the plague. I would hate to see you going aprehensive as its not really that bad at all. Dont let it marr your trip before you've even left! I personally love all things nautical (mostly seen wearing red, white and navy!) and think it captures this theme is a nice way. Sure the lighthouse was a mess last May but i think its being or has recently been refurbed and the short cut via EoS should be well back open by now so location isnt bad at all. Enjoy your trip and maybe read a few TRs if the spirit isnt setting in. but most of all DONT WORRY!

Stayed at NPB in 2006, same bad reviews on TA then and we had a fabulous stay in a wonderful room, with no problems whatsoever. We did however stay on the Admiral's Floor which at the time accounted for little perks but the hotel wasn't filthy or falling down as the TA reports would have you believe.

Mice are a problem at DLP, probably because it's built in the middle of the countryside, we live in a rural farming area and some years we have the same problem at home. I'm sure they're sorting it.

I've seen reports of them being spotted in several restaurants, usually the Blue Lagoon but in all our trips I've never seen one.

Hope the only mouse you see is Mickey. :)

I would not stay there again even if it was free!

I'd stay for free - so if you win a trip I'll gladly take it off your hands :lmao:

Saying that though, it is my least favourite hotel to be honest, not because of the bad reviews, but just because of how big it is. I'm a Sequoia fan and would pick this over the NPB, but saying that, it is nearer to the parks now the bridge has reopened and this is a bonus for some.

I say don't make your mind up until you have gone. If you don't like it, you know not to book that hotel again. Some love it, some don't. I don't like the decor (I was bought up with parents who work in a hospital and the white does nothing for me lol, but I just don't like the colour scheme, I'm so shallow :rotfl2:)

I have to agree, stayed there in 2004 and it was horrible and the reviews have gotten worse since then. In 2010 we stayed at SL which was very nice. We went around to visit all of the other resorts except NB. I really didn't even want to step back into that dump.

I work on this principle too. Trip Advisor is a great resource but you've got to remember people are far quicker to write a bad review than a good one, and what one person will be critical over another person will see no wrong. Hopefully everything will be OK and you'll be happy with your stay there.

honestly though, i think it has to be the worst place i have ever stayed in. I dont mind how basic a hotel is as long as its clean, and boy was it not clean! One of the reports on TA is mine, though i tend to agree with most, people are quicker to review something if its bad - i actually review all the hotels i stay in as i want to give good reviews too. :)

Look at it this way - at least if you go expecting it to be appalling it can only get better. We've just come back from Rome and I really was expecting the worst after reading the most recent reviews on TA for our hotel. When we'd booked a year ago the reviews had all been glowing. Well, I think I must have stayed in a different hotel to these reviewers as the hotel was perfect for us, the only fault we found was that the wifi wasn't working and we had to borrow a cable from reception to access the internet - no problem for us as I only wanted to use the internet to check-in for our flights home although if I had been on a business trip and needing constant internet access I'm sure I'd have felt differently.

Sending you lots of :wizard: :wizard: that you'll be happy with the place but if you're not at least you're prepared ..... and if you're not happy then complain whilst you're there. Far more chance of getting something sorted whilst you're there than waiting until you're back home.

We stayed in the Newport Bay earlier this year and were not expecting much, the only reason we picked it was because the family room was cheaper than 2 connecting rooms in the other hotels. We went with friends and both our rooms were clean and functional. Check in was efficient, breakfast was well organised (we always went early) and the staff were all friendly. Hope this helps you feel better.

looks like im stuck. staying in a dump. :sad2:

I don't do dumps ! lol

I've had 2 uninspiring stays at the Sequoia Lodge, was really disappointed at the first visit, tatty room, chipped paint, key that wouldn't work, no toiletries in the room on arrival and only replenished once during the entire stay, I developed a really horrible eye infection the day after we arrived which to be honest I put down to a dirty towel in the bathroom, given the lack of housekeeping and as I'd never had an eye infection before or since. I went back to SL a 2nd time, because I genuinely thought I was unlucky, this time we had 2 interconnecting rooms, same chipped paint, same tired carpets paintwork, same lack of housekeeping and only 1 room key worked the entire stay.
Now I'm not sure exactly how many thousands of people pass through the SL in a week but I'm obviously in the minority x 2. In fact I think I'm the only person on DIS who isn't in love with SL, I do plan a return trip, but only because it's been renovated otherwise you wouldn't catch me in "that dump" again. ;)

If you're really worried about it could you afford to upgrade to the New York or downgrade to SL, guests can't possibly have trashed it yet !

well, i emailed dis with my conserns. They have replied and said they understand my conserns and that its fine for me to change my booking. This has worried me further because surley they should try and convince me that they dont have such problems, but they didnt.

Any way to change to sequia is an extra £379

and hotel new york £507 :eek:

Thats a hugh difference to pay.

We went with jothp (who posted earlier) in June this year. We picked it as it was the hotel they were staying in. I didn't read any reviews and I think you all ways have to read them with a pinch of salt. Everyone has different expectations and different standards.

Perhaps I had rose tinted glasses on when I went but I was bowled over with how fantastic the hotel looked from the outside. OK so it was big but to me that just added to the impressiveness (I may have made that word up :)) I didn't notice any dead plants outside and I didn't look to closely to see whether it needed a paint job on the outside - as we were too busy wanting to get inside and off to the parks! We had to queue to check in but as it was 10:30am it wasn't too busy. Our room was adequate. Yes it probably is looking a little tired but then I'm sure it doesn't take long for rooms to start looking tired. Thankfully it was clean....if it wasn't then I'm sure it would have dampened the mood.

As to whether I'd stay there again - yes I would - but I'd probably also want to check out the other hotels.

Suzie.
