Heard a great story this morning. A girl about 8 years old was talking to her mother about the Pope. The girl asked how a new Pope is chosen. The mom explained that the Cardinals get together, talk about it, and vote on who will be the next Pope. The girl paused and then asked Mom why the other Baseball teams didn't get to vote.

The Church's doctrines have changed on many things over the last two millenia, and they likely shall again, though likely not in the next papacy. The condom question is a bit more complex than being caricatured here. In many parts of Africa, wives culturally are expected to submit regardless. In many cases, their husband has contracted HIV. The issue is whether an appropriate pastoral response was to let them use condoms in that situation, which is a much harder call, and hopefully one there can be some pastoral flexibility on in the future.
