New pool heat policy? ***update see post 549 ****

I guess they thought no one would look up the Red Cross Mantra! It's there, plain as day for everyone to see.

RECEIVED TODAY FROM DVC MEMBER SERVICES:

Thank you for contacting Member Services.

I appreciate your taking the time to share your feedback with us
regarding our pool temperatures at
the Walt Disney World Resort.

Since the American Red Cross does not recommend a specific water
temperature, and there are no state
temperature requirements for resort swimming pools, the Walt Disney
World Resort has adopted 78-80
degrees for our pools, which falls within their suggested range of
78-82 degrees for leisure and
exercise swimming. We previously heated our pools from 78-82 degrees,
and began using the new range
at the start of the current winter season as part of an overall effort
to conserve natural
resources.
As you may know, our company is committed to what we call
Environmentality, which is our
commitment to being good stewards of the environment.

Your feedback is very important to us. Based on concerns we have
received from yourself, as well as other Members, we are currently evaluating our existing procedures for heating the pools. I would like to assure you that your comments have been taken seriously and have been shared with the
appropriate Executives.

Sincerely,

Dear ,

Thank you for your e-mail.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns regarding the
temperature of our resort
pools. Based on American Red Cross recommendations, we are heating our
resort swimming pools at 78-80 degrees during the winter months.
Please note that water temperature is monitored throughout the day so that we may maintain this recommended temperature. Since the average air temperature can be cool in Florida during the winter months, you may wish to be mindful of the current temperature when using the pools. In addition, The Walt Disney Company is focused on continually finding ways to be environmentally conscious and participative. By maintaining our
resort swimming pools at 80 degrees during the winter months, we contribute greatly toward conserving valuable energy sources.

Thank you again for contacting us. We are glad you are a Member of our
Disney Vacation Club family,
and we look forward to entertaining you for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Jackie

We received the same response this afternoon. Too bad any re-evaluation woldn't be in time for our trip tomorrow! We'll report back re. water temps when we return...

I just spoke with the Vero Beach resort. Ed reported that the pool temperature there is 82. Thank goodness.

I am dismayed that Disney is misrepresenting the Red Cross Guidelines. You can clearly see from above and a research of the Red Cross web site that the recommended pool temperatures for recreational pools is 82.

Thank you Vero Beach. I believe I will write a letter to Vero Beach today to thank them for keeping the pools at at least 82 to help support thier efforts. Some positive reinforcement should be worthwhile, especially for offsite resorts where swimming is probably the main recreational activity.

Anyone want to see the EMAIL I sent them ?

Please see the Pool Heat Thread, but it is no longer a figment of the imagination, the pool temps were lowered at the start of the winter season :confused3

I know a CM at SSR told me in Jan. 2006 (first week) that they kept High Rock Spring at 84F but they were being pressured to lower it. Seems like it was mandated soon after that.

This thread was merged with the pool heat thread.

of all the cost cutting ideas, this is what they picked? I bet there is going to be some major flack over this issue.......

You've got to be kidding me!!! That is the most rambling, absurd email I have ever seen. I thought we wanted them to take this issue seriously. This email just set our cause back to the stone ages!! B R A V O!!!!

"Admit" implies that they had denied it. There was no official denial from DVC management. None. Rather, they had said early on that they've changed the temperature of the heaters in accordance with recommendations by the Red Cross. I find it bewildering why this fabricated conflict actually has lived past that point. :confused3

The most recent email from DVC management states that "the American Red Cross does not recommend a specific water temperature" and the change to the pool temperatures was made "as part of an overall effort to conserve natural resources".

Admit: To acknowledge or confess

:rotfl2: Im really getting a kick out of all this fuss!! :rotfl2:

Lets see..... :scratchin :scratchin

If the pool temp goes back to its original temp....the "AIR" temp from Nov-April is "Still Cold" ....you'll freeze standing up and getting out...so...whats the difference?? :confused3 :confused3

Also .... those of us who vacation from April-Nov will sure enjoy the new refreshing settings :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

This is completely off topic but has anyone else noticed that the majority of posters objecting to this new policy, including myself, are females. And that the guys don't seem to understand what the big deal is???

That is half of the point here, they are not going to cool the water temperatures to 78 degrees come July. In July, the water will be 90 degrees and NO ONE in management is going to care about Red Cross guidelines then.

If they have stopped warming it in the winter, don't think they are going to be cooling it in July. It just won't happen.

We have been to WDW twice in January. We went swimming on the days when the air temperature was at least in the mid 70s and it was sunny or partially sunny. The combination of those air temps and the sun made it surprisingly pleasant. Most days, getting out of the pool was no worse than stepping out of a warm bath into a 72-degree bathroom -- once we toweled off, we were fine. In the late afternoon when the sun is blocked by the buildings around the pool, it gets chilly so we leave the pool area, or wrap up in a few extra towels if we're still working on our poolside drinks!

Once the pool reaches at least 78 degrees on its own due to sunshine and warm air temps, they won't need to heat it. The pools will heat up to whatever temperature they usually do in summer. A lot of people have mentioned that they go in the summer and find the pools too warm to be refreshing and I expect that will continue to be the case. If they don't want to expend energy to heat the pools in winter, I can't see them expending energy to cool them down in the summer.

Upper Management Please Review your Policy, and then review the VP who put into place the new temperature POLICY of 78 to 80 degrees on Disney Pools.

Please realize I am trying to get you to laugh and send this email
to someone else ABOVE the VP who put into motion this policy.

You probably don't even like that same VP.

Don't deleiver this email to that VP, they won't care.

That VP's Home Pool is set to 86 degrees when the family gets together,

The VP in charge who made this decision, I think that VP should not get any
stock options this year !

I think that VP should be required to take his family to a 78 degree pool in
January and stay there all day and watch the quests reactions.

Even the VP's family will wonder why there are hardly any quests in the
pool, while they shiver getting in and out of the pool.

I hope the MEMBER SERVICES who gets this email, knows the name of the VP who implemented this policy and is laughing and agreeing with me !

If by any chance this new guideline has been already reversed, or the VP who made this decision removed from the Walt Disney premises, my sincere apology,

I would appreciate a response from someone higher in the organization that
does not work UNDER this VP.

I hope your laughing, but seriously what is the actual name of the VP who
made this policy decision,

I won't tell that you told me the VP's name,

Phil

I assume you are not happy with this VP then? :rolleyes2

Yes, I too have noticed that most of the women objecting are female. :rotfl2:

Otherwise things could get rather confusing.
(sorry.. it's all in fun)
