New pool heat policy? ***update see post 549 ****

Red Cross temps are for the YMCA that charges $1.00 to swim or $75 to join for the year.

Woow...Up here in New England YMCA charges $10.00 to swim or $400 to join per year, and the water is around the same temp. as the current DVC pool temps.

No, I don't thiink that would be a fair assumption. Any more than I think it would be fair to assume that free resort delivery of packages will continue indefinately, or Magical Express will always be free. A think a fair assumption would be that DVC resorts would be held to the same maintenance standards and pool temps at whatever is currently in effect for regular Disney resorts.

I hope they don't decide to only fill the pools half full, to save water.

"All the pools are heated to the same standards." No, just WDW pools ;)

Could people post what the official pool temps are at:

Hilton, Marriot, and Universal Studios.... for those who have been elsewhere and would like to send an email to their customer services. It would be cool to hear other Orlando area resort's official pool temperature response.

I'd be interested in the responses, because I'm looking for an alternative for next XMAS and Spring Break so we can swim in a warm pool.

B3-I wish I was as confident as you that they'll turn the heat back up. I am in the same boat as another poster. Just FedEx'd my papers in Friday so ROR starts about.....NOW!!! I talked to my guide this morning and she played dumb and said "all I know is that when I come in the morning to pools are steaming and there are people in them at 7:30 in the morning." A non-answer. :confused3

Honestly this is a deal breaker for us and I am soooooo upset. We ALWAYS go in January and lots of time is spent IN the pool. This January it was way too cold. Uncomfortably cold even with swimming about and being active. I just talked to a friend who is at Nickolodean (sp?) Suites with her family and said the pools fabulous and WARM....

So, what's your advice? I got in at the end of F&F at $83 PP so I'd hate to recind and then have Disney reconsider. But...it's just a REALLY BIG DEAL :sad2:

83 a point=good deal.

you bought at a great price. you could sell that in a heart beat for 82-84. - commish to sell...

the most you could lose is 5 bucks a pt.

don't bail out........

the WORST that can happen, is you keep it take a winter trip sell it and lose a very small amount of money (since you bought so cheap.)

my grandmother used to say "this too shall pass"

imo, she was right.....

WDW won't keep pools long term at a temp that cause guest to be unhappy.

Are the pools open that early in the morning....?

I thought SAB etc. opened up later.... but maybe the other pools are open earlier??

Now that you point that out I may have combined some of my guide's comments. She comes to work at 0730 and there is steam rising from the pools but maybe the crowds are later in the day??? Basically the gist of her comments were that it looks like they are plenty warm to her and people seem to be in them. :confused3

We live on a 3 acre tract of land that has a one acre pond. Steam often comes off of the pond when the water temp is 50 degrees.

Personally I'd politely be all over my guide if I was in your stage of purchase, and convince him/her to get you in touch with a decision maker.

DAITCHER-
Where are you when I need you? I want YOU to call my guide for me and get er done. ;) Or have B3 distract the Thermostat Police with his stand-up routine and maybe some juggling while you turn up the dial. :p After you get SSR fixed this is your next mission. :thumbsup2

This is the official response I received from my email to DVC:
In addition, The Walt Disney Company is focused on continually finding ways
to be environmentally conscious and participative. By maintaining our resort swimming pools at 80
degrees during the winter months, we contribute greatly toward conserving valuable energy sources.

WDW doing its best to conserve energy? For those that dont know (I sure most do) this is the Pavillion Plaza in the Magic Kingdom when its 95 degress and 90 percent humidity outside all summer long-this is air conditioned to around 70 degrees with NO WALLS-not even glass sheets. :confused3

It's not surprising that Disney is looking for ways to keep costs down in the face of rising energy costs. I just wish they would make those cuts somewhere else. Swimming around in a warm pool on our past two January trips was the highlight of both trips! I remember floating around in the pool thinking how wonderful it was to be swimming outdoors in January. We decided we should do this every year so we just bought more points just for that purpose. D'oh!

Any ideas where they should cut costs? maybe we can give them some ideas.

I wish I did have some good ideas for cost cutting that did not take anything away from anybody. If it was up to me, since I am most definitely NOT a morning person, I would cancel morning EMH. It must consume quite a bit of energy to operate a park for that extra hour in the morning, plus the fuel costs of running the transportation system for that extra hour. In addition to the energy costs there is the cost of paying all the CMs to work the extra hour in the morning. That ought to save more than enough to keep all of the pools warm in winter and cool in summer. I imagine there are quite a few people who would vote against this proposal, however!

Actually I'm with you Lisa! The one measly hour just doesn't seem worth the cost to me

EMH-I don't need 'em either-I go on vaca to sleep in.LOL I would rather have warm pool water for my kids to swim in. Angel

Maybe they could turn off the fireplaces at WL and VWL that run day and night, just kidding.

We reroute pool water lines thru the fireplace to help heat the pools at VWL and WL.

Jim.

Actually depending on one's viewpoints, the pools could be half empty!
