New Pirates with Jack - HATED IT!!

We're all entitled to our opinions. Mine is this: I used to really love this ride. Now I don't. Others may disagree, and that's fine too.

we loved it. the kids got a real kick out of seeing Jack Sparrow

I understand respecting other peoples' opinions, but I just can't see why some people could stop liking a particular attraction, just because they put in a few new things.

It makes me feel sad, especially in a case like this one, because they did not change PotC, but just merely added to what's already been there since the beginning.

And, IMO, the WDW PotC needed these enhancements (and a thorough refurbishment) even moreso than the DL original, since, despite WDW's PotC have a bigger air-conditioned interior queue area, WDW's version is way too short and doesn't have as much in it as DL's, nor did it have the same amount of "punch" that DL's PotC has had.

I love POTC the way it was created and it is a classic....a must-do for every trip. I really hope I am not disappointed in it when I ride next year.

Each person is entitled to their own opinion and we all view the ride differently. Don't take such great offense. ;)
To many, it is a classic and the change takes away from the originality of it.

It is okay if you like it DisneyPhilip, but not everybody will.

I really don't think you will be. Most people I talk to love the new additions and as a girl who rode the ride 8 times a day during trips as a child, very little has changed. The additions brought the ride up to date and added a level of mystique to it. :thumbsup2

If they change a ride from something we like and enjoy to something we don't care for, why would we keep riding it? Our favorite Epcot attraction was the original Imagination ride. Once they changed it, we strongly disliked the new version. We rode it once and never rode it again. When they changed it the 2nd time, we tried it again and still didn't like it and haven't been on it since. There are more than enough things to keep us busy at WDW without wasting time on rides we don't like.
I agree.. That's exactly how I feel about the change from Alien Encounter to SGE.

when i first heard that they were changing the ride i was really upset. that had been my FAVORITE ride since i first went to Disney. and even tho i loved the movies, i was still a little iffy about it.

i still haven't gone on the ride yet, but i've gotten better at "accepting" the fact that they added the things. i'm sure i'll end up going on the ride and saying "that was it?" in the end.

i heard they really didn't change all that much of the ride. that Jack's only in like 2 parts, and that Davy Jones is in towards the end.

I had never been on PotC before and I wanted them to change it back! The movie was supose to have been baised on the ride, not vice versa. It felt more like a commercial for the movies. Or instead of "Where's Waldo?" it was "Where's Sparrow"?(he was in nearly every scene!).

That's funny, because I know that the wife came out and told Carlos not to be a chicken when we were there in August. She doesn't come out as often any more, though. It's a longer dialogue loop, I think.

Beth

I'm glad she is still there, but no member of my party of 5 heard or saw her during our several rides in late August. I may be over forty, but I'm not blind AND hard of hearing :)

personally i was very concerned when i first heard about the changing to potc. this was my first introduction to WDW. way back in the early days of my life my then girlfriend took me to wdw as a treat. my first ride was POTC and i have been hooked ever since. this is the noly attraction that i must do multiple times whenever i visit MK. so when i heard about the changes i was concerned, very concerned that they were going to ruin my fav. i also understood the need for change after reading some of the parents coments that after riding potc their children who have seen the movie wanted to know where jack was. so as any business should do you need to ply to the masses. disney now had a new franchise in potc and they were going to capatilize on it by bringing the single most important reason for its success, jack sparrow, into the potc attraction. you now have given more people then ever a reason to return to MK. see the ride about the movie, we know that the movie spawned the ride but the general public may not or even care. for those who have been long time potc fans, a reason to return to see the changes.

i am looking foward to seeing the changes this summer.

Jack Sparrow is not in every scene. He's only in 3 scenes and that's it.

And the ride has not become a commercial for the films. Saying that, IMO, is like saying that Snow White's Adventures (a film-based ride that's been around since opening day) is a commercial for the Snow White film and so on and so forth.

He's in three scenes. Considering there are probably ten or over, I'm not sure that counts as in every scene. And in two of the scenes, he's hiding - in a crate and around a corner. The only scene in which he speaks is the final scene which he makes a full-on appearance.

I know some might not like the changes, but please, let's not overexaggerate for those who have yet to see the ride.

Put me in the "leave it alone" catagory. Some classics should be left as is. POTC is one of the extra special rides Disney has that draws people to the park. Not to mention that Disney has not used the best judgement when picking the actors used for some of their attractions. I DO NOT LIKE johnny depp or ellen in UOE. Neither are good role models and Disney could have made better decisons in those cases. And yes i know JD was the pirate in the movie which is why he is there.....still dont like him though!!!

Here's where we disagree. The Snow White ride (and the Dumbo ride and the Peter Pan ride and a bunch of others) IS based on the film. It is supposed to reflect and even promote the movie.

POTC was NOT based on a movie. They just decided to change the ride to incorporate characters from the movie, similar to what they did with the Tiki Room, a change I also dislike.

As for UOE, Fore2213, I actually like having Bill Nye and Ellen in the show, but I still think it was a bad idea because it dates the ride. Does Bill Nye even still have a TV show? Once the celebrities become less well known, what happens to the ride? Putting a real person in the ride only makes sense for as long as the majority of guests know who the person is.

I thought the actual AAs were amazing especially the first one, which was amazingly life-like. I enjoyed the new portions.

I guess I'm a double minority, because I've never particularly thought much of POC (sacrilege!) -- to me it was just a place to cool off and try to figure out what the big deal was to so many people. Also, I've never seen the movie with Johnny Depp, and probably won't, unless they show it on a plane.

I rode last Sept before the change, and a few weeks ago after the change, and it's not changed that much, from the point of view of a casual rider. I agree that they've cleaned it up a bit -- the mist screen is great and I definitely heard "rough waters ahead" PLUS "dead men tell no tales."

The sound quality was so bad in the cannon scene last year that I was very glad that that got overhauled.

The JD animatronics were good, but they don't overwhelm. I do think I heard the name "Jack Sparrow" whispered so much that might be distracting if you don't care for him.

Other than that, no big deal.

I noticed they also significantly cleaned up Peter Pan's ride since last Sept (05) - it was a disgrace when I rode it that trip, with debris all over the place and physically dusty and dirty elements, plus dark cloth pulled aside showing behind the scenes stairs.

I'm glad when they take a fresh look at rides, whether for content or upkeep, and address them.

Never said i hated the ride...just think it should have been left alone. Its like changing Space Mountian....no need for it because it is perfect as is!!! Can you imagine the outcry if they changed that?? Change isnt always good.......i like MS but i really miss Horizons!!!!

Well, just because you hate Johnny Depp doesn't mean that you have to hate the ride.

Just back and hated it ! :guilty: Yes the new AA are good but the story line is "How many times can you say Jack Sparrow before the ride ends!" Yo ho is hardly played it is disjointed IMHO!
