New Pirates with Jack - HATED IT!!

Isn't that funny. I had the opposite experience, thinking I was going to hate the changes but finding them to be so minimal they really didn't make any difference (other than the first element, which I thought was fantastic).

If you weren't looking for Jack specifically, he just seems like another Pirate who shows up now and then. I didn't get the feeling he was the 'star of the show'; he's just sort of there, but if you don't know the movie and you don't know the 'old' attraction, you wouldn't necessarily notice him as being a key element.

I agree. We rode it twice last week (one on 10/29 and again on 10/31 during MNSSHP). Disney changed it a little bit (from the last time I rode it in 93) but not enough to take away the orignal flare. I especially like the Davy Jones effect. It really does look like you are going through a waterfall instead of smoke. I give it a :thumbsup2 .

I guess you can put me down for the "I liked it" camp... They updated some of the effects, and the cannon thing is really cool. They didn't really seem to completely change the ride around Jack sparrow.. they just added him into certain scene's. So I like that they updated it, and still kept it true to it's original nature... now if they could just undo the pc changes they made years back... :rolleyes1

I loved all the changes except for the "dunking scene" disneysteve refers to -the wife no longer opens the window to tell her husband "don't be cheekeen".
DD10 agrees with the poster who said they need to add Will Turner!

I'm not a fan of the changes...one JS was ok, but the other two were a waste IMO.

I'm also in the camp of those who are pleased with the updated PotC.

They did a pretty good job in refreshening this classic attraction and updating it to include new special effects and characters without changing it too much.

The "Yo Ho" song is still prominent in the attraction and they made a pretty good effort in incorporating Jack Sparrow into the storyline.

They tried really hard to maintain the attraction's classic look and feel while updating it at the same time. It's these kinds of things that can keep an attraction fresh for many more years and to maintain interest in it.
I agree with this poster. It was a small update that keeps it fresh and appealing.

Add another vote to the loved the changes side! Our boat stopped for awhile by the treasure scene and the animatronic Jack Sparrow was awesome! Closest I'll ever get to Johnny Depp! :rotfl:

My family and I loved the new updated changes to POC. During our trip we must have rode it over 8 times. One night there were no lines and we rode it back to back. We are not one for changes in rides, but this was a nice one.

She did when I rode on 10/27 and 10/29. Maybe that part wasn't working properly when you rode. :confused3

I'm another one who was doubtful about the changes but ended up liking them. I didn't notice that you hear "Yo Ho" less though... Is it that you don't hear the instrumental one in the beginning of the ride? Someone will have to refresh my memory on the old version.

I especially liked the movie theme music during the cannonfire. :thumbsup2

The instrumental is still at the beginning. I like to call it the "sad refrain." Slower and instrumental. I suppose if you're not listening for it, you might not notice it. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the clarification! Can anyone tell me where you could hear Yo Ho before that you cannot now? I didn't notice any difference.

The scene with the Wicked Wench and Barbossa is really the only place. Then it transitions to the well scene and from there - Yoho Yoho. The whistly instrumental until you get to the Pirate band. Just as before.

The only difference from that point would be at the end, it's Jack singing it whilst talking to the guests.

We enjoyed it. The new waterfall effect at the beginning is pretty cool and the Jack-animatronic-guys are so lifelike they are almost creepy! Their movements are more fluid and realistic than the older animatronics. Very cool.

::yes:: Agree. We thought it was better than ever.

Ah. I didn't realize that Yo Ho was even playing during that scene before. Guess I was too distracted by all the cannonfire!

Thanks for the explanation. :thumbsup2

Question--------

IS WE WANT THE REDHEAD scene still there??

Yes, that scene was entirely unchanged as far as I could tell.

Yo ho was sung but far less prominently.

The skull and crossbones is gone. There is no warning before the drop now about "rough waters ahead."

Sorry for all you Johnny Depp fans (and I'm one too) but they gutted this attraction.

No appology necessary! :p -- We were there in Sept and I didnt think it was OMG! Great!- I think it could have stayed the way it was and would have been just fine...the change is no big deal--- :sad2:

I was worried since that's been my favorite attraction since I was little and ended up loving it. I thought the changes were pretty non-intrusive, except the very beginning which I thought made it better. It's funny to hear people in your boat panic as you near the "waterfall" with Davy Jones thinking it's a real waterfall. And having taken out the skull and crossbones (and other things near the drop) it made the drop even better. Let's face it, it's a pretty dinky drop - but it's so dark now and you can't tell quite when you're going to fall that it adds a little more excitement to the drop.

The only thing I was bummed about was that they took the parrot away at the entrance. I was giddy when I spotted him on the bridge!

My family likes the new changes, except the removal of the skull and crossbones warning. Not sure why they took that out since the Davy Jones effect really had nothing to do with it and they're far enough apart so they don't interfere with each other. Almost all of the additions of 'looking for Jack Sparrow' still include references to treasure as before (like the dunking scene.) I also liked the amped up cannons. One shot from the fort hit me aside the head and made me jump (since I was looking at Barbossa).

My husband and I loved the new pirates! We rode it twice. I think the new effects are wonderful- the ride has definitely been improved.
