I'm sure I missed an earlier discussion but we rode the "new" Pirates today and I was very, very disappointed. Adding Jack did nothing good for this classic Disney attraction. I don't think it integrated into the storyline of the show at all. I didn't realize they had changed the ride so much to make Jack a part of it. I may never ride again. I feel like I've lost an old friend. Very sad.

was 'yo ho yo ho a priates life for me ' sung still?

and before the drop, the talking skull/cross and bones, is it still there or is that gone by way of davy jones water fall image thing?

Yo ho was sung but far less prominently.

The skull and crossbones is gone. There is no warning before the drop now about "rough waters ahead."

Sorry for all you Johnny Depp fans (and I'm one too) but they gutted this attraction.

whats different about it beside the new jack
They changed the storyline. The dialogue now is all about Jack, like where they are dunking the guy in the tank, they're talking about finding Jack. And at the very end in the treasure room, it is just Jack sitting there and all the other pirates are gone from that scene.

i agree-----if i heard one more "capt. jack sparrow" said i was going to puke!!

....and i liked the movie too!!!!

We loved the first movie. It is one of our favorites and we've seen it many times. We weren't so thrilled with the 2nd, but that's another issue. Our dislike of the attraction has nothing at all to do with not liking the movie.

We enjoyed it. The new waterfall effect at the beginning is pretty cool and the Jack-animatronic-guys are so lifelike they are almost creepy! Their movements are more fluid and realistic than the older animatronics. Very cool.

I know myself and my kids are really going to miss the skull/crossbones warning. I am now frankly kind of nervous to see this next month. :sad2:

Uh oh. I may be dissapointed when I ride it in May.
The update at DL in CA is alot different. We still have the skull and crossbones saying pretty much the same spiel, and our Davy Jones effect is in a different spot I think. I still heard "yo ho" being played too.
Hm. I thought our overhaul was done pretty well, with not much taken away from the original storyline. I'm sorry to hear that the WDW version was not done in the same fashion.

Well the sound track and effect all needed to be updated.

You get blown away from the canon blast now and the cats sound real.

Without the JD tie in that would never had happened.

I like the new effect and some of the stuff they brought back with the update.

I'm also in the camp of those who are pleased with the updated PotC.

They did a pretty good job in refreshening this classic attraction and updating it to include new special effects and characters without changing it too much.

The "Yo Ho" song is still prominent in the attraction and they made a pretty good effort in incorporating Jack Sparrow into the storyline.

They tried really hard to maintain the attraction's classic look and feel while updating it at the same time. It's these kinds of things that can keep an attraction fresh for many more years and to maintain interest in it.

I am in the "I like it camp". I thought the additions were not too much (3 Jack Sparrow animatronics if I recall correctly). If anything the changes distracted me from the evil PC changes they made a few years back...which are sadly still there.

Well, I know that I may come across as biased via my avatar and all that, but this was my favorite attraction growing up (and half of the reason why I loved the movie so much), but I am in the "like it" camp as well.

The new Davy Jones effect and the new Jack Sparrows are amazing. There are two more lines of dialogue added after the Barbossa scene on the Wicked Wench being the man at the well and the man at the barrel. After that, it's still classic Pirates until the very last scene where Jack sits amongst the treasure which is one of the most amazing Animatronics I've seen. It brought new life into the attraction and I loved it.

When I first went on it, I was displeased to note that the attraction was VERY dark at the beginning in order to get the Davy Jones affect to pop. However, upon reriding in October, I see that this has been fixed and you can again see the stone work as you go into the cave. The Yoho refrain is still played in the cave with the skeleton pirates. Where the soundtrack changes is around the Wicked Wench once you dive. And honestly? It makes the scene pop much more. The soundtrack with the canons going off makes the scene become more real. Once you round the corner, however, it's back to Yoho.

The new mist curtain as you go into the cave always takes my breath away. I always hear the people behind me (how I always manage to be in the front - who knows) ooh and aah at it. It's quite an accomplishment if you ask me.

And DisneyPhillip is right. The only place where Yoho isn't where it was before is during the Wicked Wench canonball scene. Still in the cave. Still during the pillaging and even Jack sings it at the end during the treasure scene.

I am excited about doing the new version of the ride. Our vacation ended the day before the new version opened, so this will be one of the first rides we do in Dec, I'll be able to share, agree or disagree at that time. Although, we are big POTC fans.

We look forward to seeing the new version.
My DD was 7 for her 1st trip in 2000. We took out the scrapbook and started to make a list of what was "fun at 7yrs old but maybe lame for age 14".
When we got to PoC and I told her Capt Jack was emphasis of a refurb, well then PoC made our top 5!!
Thanks DISers -if not for peep sharing when they return, we would miss so much!!

Isn't that funny. I had the opposite experience, thinking I was going to hate the changes but finding them to be so minimal they really didn't make any difference (other than the first element, which I thought was fantastic).

If you weren't looking for Jack specifically, he just seems like another Pirate who shows up now and then. I didn't get the feeling he was the 'star of the show'; he's just sort of there, but if you don't know the movie and you don't know the 'old' attraction, you wouldn't necessarily notice him as being a key element.

I was seriously against the changes but was pleasantly surprised that they didn't destroy a true Disney classic.

Put me in with the "I liked it camp"........No,"I LOVED it camp"!!
Enjoyed not having Yo Ho Yo Ho blaring in my ear the whole ride and loved the new special effect as you entered the ride.
I think it has been greatly improved. pirate: pirate: pirate:

You like it, or you don't. I liked it. I thought it really improved the story, and didn't seem to take anything away from any other part of the attraction. The Davy Jones thing is just a mist screen with a projector. From all the raving here, I had no idea what it would be, so it wasn't that thrilling in the end.

I am in the I really liked it camp. I was afraid that it would be too much and take away from the old ride. It didn't to me. Jack was very minimal until the end. I actually thought the improvements were amazing! The cannon fire got all four of us in the same row... we *never* felt that before. It was very well done IMO, with additions without taking away too much from the original.

Now they just need to add a Will Turner ;)
