Just read on All ears.net that disney is now offering custom made picnics in the Animal Kingdom. Prices range from ~25.00 + tax for a meal for 3 to $57.00 + tax for a meal for 6. You pick up a picnic basket with utensil and then go to a designated picnic place in the animal kingdom for your meal. Meals include choice of entree, side dishes, dessert and water.

Sounds intriguing. It started a couple of days ago, has any one tried it.

I just saw that too - how cool! My only question is - have they designated new areas to sit & eat - or will you just be directed to existing areas? There are some nice, quiet spots down towards the water on your way from Africa to Asia - but I can't see more than 1-2 families fitting. I'd LOVE to see them create a few new picnic spots!

does it say where the designated place is?

Apparently there is a map, according to posters from earlier posts about this topic.

According to the AK's "Picnic in the Park guide map"...

"If you are on the Disney Dining Plan, Picnic in the park may be used as a Quick Service Meal. Requires one Adult entitlement per meal amount. For example a Meal for Three will require three adult entitlements."

Hope that helps!

My son and I are heading to the World in early June. Does anyone know if 2 can do the picnic in the park. Or is it atleast a 3 person limit?

thanks sambuster

What kind of food is going to be served? Sandwiches??

According to all ears there are 2 seperate "tiers" Tier 1 is primarily sandwiches. Tier 2 offers rotiseerie (sp)chicken and/or ham dishes and sides (potatoes salads, chips, fruit salads, macaroni & cheese) etc.

This sounds like a lot of fun. I hope they will still have this next time we go.

This sounds great, looking forward to trying this in a few weeks :)

Would love to do this, but kind of ticked that it starts at 3 people. Way to exclude all the couples out there! Some of us actually do like to picnic........:sad2:

Looks like a cool idea. We're heading down at the end of June. Might have to try this out. Thanks for the link. I like the fact that you can use a counter service credit for this if on the dining plan.

You're not excluded, you just need to by the package for 3, either 3CS credits or cash. Certainly at a picnic two adults can eat a sandwich and a half. We are 2A and a child, but it will cost us 3A CS credits if we want to do this.

Technically there is no such thing as an adult CS credit. All CS credits are pooled together. If you look at your counts on your receipt it'll show x amount of Adult TS, x amount of child TS and, x amount of CS.

Hmm. But if I am on the DDP, and we are 2 adults, I can only use 2A credits at one time. Back to excluding couples, or buying OOP. Oh, and I don't think that CS credits are really separated, so you might be good to go, anyway. ;)

Anyone with an upcoming trip who is going to give this a try, please post pics. I'm curious to know what the picnic areas look like. Thank you in advance.

I agree with PP that this excludes couples. I can't imagine why they are doing that. It would be so romantic and relaxing for couples to picnic at AK.
And they are calling this a Family Picnic as if families of two don't count.

I'm a single mom with a 10 year old ds. We would love to do this....but since it is only for parties of 3 and up, we are excluded... unless I want to pay OOP and waste food. (not very "green").

We absolutely love Disney and as a single parent I am more relaxed at Disney than on other vacations because I feel so safe on property. However, this is another example of how single parents, especially single parents of "single" children sometimes get the shaft. This misuse of the word "family" is becoming code for "single parents and small families don't count".

-Sorry... but for some reason this subject makes me feel cranky (probably because I feel "left out" of this new option)...and I posted on this subject on another post last week, as well.

For those of you who do "qualify" it sounds like a lot of fun and I hope you enjoy it! Also, the bag looks really cute!
