New penny machines added

There should be a bunch of new quarter machines in the next few months as they start switching out the HCOE designs for YOAMD.

I stick to the pennies, myself. 51¢ is a lot easier to part with than $1.25. I do wish they'd make some limited edition pennies, though.

I must have just missed the SSR one. I looked all around for a machine, but was apparently there a few weeks too early. That gives me one more reason to look forward to next July.

My wife likes to collect these. She even hand cleaned many pennies to bring down with us in October!!! From our last trip last August (boy was it hot!), we searched everywhere we went for them. There wasn't a corner we didn't look! We filled almost 2 books of them! When I went down last May for business, I went over tot he world for 1 day and spent some more time collecting them for her. I must admit it is fun when you have the time!

Cool! I just sorted my new pennies and quarters today and put them in old film canisters. Can't wait to go!!!!

I have a question about those machines. How often are they updated? Does the designs on the penny machines change from year to year?

We've only been collecting since 2004. Most of the pennies have stayed the same. A handful of new machines have been added since then, and I know of at least 2 machines that have design changes.

The quarters were themed around Mickey's birthday (I don't remember the exact name) in 2004 - I'm not sure how long they were around. They were changed to HCOE last year.

It seems to be about a dozen machines a year get revised.

The site in the first post keeps pretty good track of them, and they revise the list 2-3 times a year. The new machines are highlighted in the list.

There's really not a need for them to be changed every year. It actually makes it more exciting to collect them. If you're collecting from year to year, you need to keep track to avoid getting duplicates. You also need to keep finding new places to explore and look for machines. I, for example, specifically add a few new resort restaurants to our plans each year. This gives us (a) another new restaurant to try, (b) the opportunity to check out another resort, and (c) the chance that there'll be some new penny designs.

One of the things I do when getting ready for a trip (anything to help pass the countdown days!) is update my copy of the list the OP provided the link to. It's one of the things that goes into the park backpack. I also go to the bank for four rolls of quarters and a roll of pennies for each trip.

With 182 machines and 494 current designs there are plenty out there to keep adding to your collection every year. The cost to buy every pressed penny in WDW would be $216.24. The cost of buying every quarter available would be $87.50. I guess I don't mind eventually spending that much to try to get a somewhat comprehensive collection, but I'm certainly not going to spend it each trip.
