Thought folks on the cruise board might be interested. Looks like PassPorter is coming out with a new dedicated Disney cruise guide. From the most recent PassPorter e-mail newsletter:

* Announcing Our New Disney Cruise Guide *

We're very pleased to announce our newest travel guide, "PassPorter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line and its Caribbean Ports of Call." This 200+ page guidebook will offer in-depth information, advice, ratings, maps, diagrams, charts, and worksheets for your Disney cruise.

We expect the book to be available in early 2003 -- perhaps January, but probably February. To learn more, view the table of contents, download free pages, and pre-order a copy, visit:
http://www.passporter.com/dcl/guidebook.htm

We also want to take this opportunity to introduce the contributing author to the field guide, Mickey Morgan. Mickey is the author of the excellent Magical Disney Cruise Guide, which is available online at http://www.wdwig.com/cruise/cruise.shtml

Mickey's contributions are invaluable to this guidebook! To learn more about Mickey, visit: http://www.passporter.com/dcl/guidebookauthors.htm

I look forward to seeing this. I'd also be interested in seeing the competition. Are there any other guides that are dedicated to the cruise?

Other than online guides to cruising, I don't know of any books dedicated to the cruiseline.

I've already got ours preordered at Amazon.com (free shipping for the holidays. :teeth: ).
I've got my fingers crossed that it will be available before our Feb 15 cruise . . . but if not, I'll guess I'll just have to start planning a second cruise to make sure that the book gets used. And wouldn't that be a darn shame.

See ya on the same cruise. Already have it planned in a regular Passporter for the time being.

also ordered,
also on the feb 15 cruise!!!
3 cat, 3 rooms for the 15 of us.
see you there!

When it comes out, I'm pretty sure it'll be the only printed Disney Cruise guide out there. Though I'd guess there are probly others in the works too.

For advance ordering, if you think it's gonna be close to your cruise date, you might actually be better off ordering directly through the PassPorter website.

As I recall from the WDW PassPorter books, when the new editions come out, the direct orders ship a little bit before Amazon has thier copies avalable. Also, when the release date's close to your trip date, they usually have an option where you tell em the last day you'd wanna receive the book. That way they ship off the "rush" copies first and, if they can't get it to you by your deadline date, they auto cancel your order if you want. It'll probly work the same way for the cruise guide release.

I used Mickey's site when I planned last years trip! I couldn't remember the site URL to go back for updates! I'm sooo excited!! I can't wait to print out Mickey's Cruise Guide! I feel so giddy...like a school girl!

Woo-Hoo!! :Pinkbounc Just received e-mail from Amazon.com. Shipping estimate for my copy is January 8, 2003 with the delivery estimate of January 13 - 14. Plenty of time to fill it up with all manor of notes and DIS-hints and helps.

And by the way, Hi DVC Don. Doctorrick had started a thread a while back asking who's on board for our cruise but it seems to have dropped by the wayside. Maybe we should start another.

Since Dave from Marietta and your truly are "expert reviewers" for the book, you KNOW it will be good (hee hee). ;)
Seriously, it is going to be a great book, with all the info. and tips that can make the difference between a good cruise and a great one.

I'll second that thought...it's going to be great! I'm also reviewing it right now, and there is so much info included, it would be a shame not to read it all. I can tell you...this cruise guide ROCKS!

Hey folks - you are in for an INCREDIBLE treat with this book! I have been fortunate enough to be able to review the book for Jennifer and Dave and it is so incredibly comprehensive, yet it still possess the whimsy and fun that you expect from both Disney and a Passporter guide! To the best of my knowledge there will be nothing like it on the market! Get ready!

I've had a couple of the passporter books in the past for the parks and loved them. With the great people involved in this I know it is going to be great. Can't wait to order my copy!

I agree. Barb and I have both seen advance copy from the book. We are not at liberty to discuss details, but I can assure you... it's a GREAT book! You will not be disappointed!

Yes, if you preorder your book through the PassPorter site, you can enter a latest possible ship date. If, for some reason, the book doesn't ship until it's too late to do you any good, your order will automatically be cancelled.

BTW,
Don't get too excited about Amazon's ship by date.

Since passporter just put january as release date, I believe the amazon computer just assumes a Jan 1 release, and calculates the shipping from that. However, based on the passporter date, I think its going to be later in January before release.
