New passholder plan

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if they are trying to steer AP holders towards DVC. If you have an AP, you probably go two or three times a year (at least). Maybe Disney is asking "How about joining DVC and saving some money and leave the other hotels to the less occassional visitor"?

Just a thought.

Probably but I just don't have 15G to drop from DVC right now. That would take a few years.

What about those of us who've already reserved a room and paid a deposit? Now we're asked to go on the AP website and pay another deposit? Is there any way the deposit we've already paid can be transferred over? Has anyone encountered this situation yet?

If you want more info and more discussion there are several threads about the new program on the Codes and Rates section of the Resort Board.

Finance the DVC .There are a lot of good rates. We just bought last year.Should have done it sooner.Figure out your monthly payments and what you pay for your trip. You may be surprised

If this is going to be the case, then Disney should drop their rack rates some.
Well, the objective, of course, is to match the rates to what customers are willing to pay. So if the new restrictions on discounts result in lowering demand, then surely rates would drop as a result. I think, rather, instead, that demand is so high that they won't need to drop their rates at all in order to maintain a healthy utilization.

If Disney already has a bunch of AP holders who are commited via a non-refundable rack rate deposit 120 days out, why should they offer discounts? They've got you. If we can't continue to do it the way we always have, we'll just stay at the Swan or Dolphin or off site. I like to know ahead of time how much I'm going to be spending.

I thought the exact same thing. And that's exactly what I think I'll do. I'm tired of playing this resort discount game anyway. Sick to death of it. We're going in 2 weeks, with an AP discount at the Beach Club I might add and I think I'll simply waddle on down to the kiosk and buy in to DVC. I've been through the tour, I have a rep, and I'm sick of all of this.

Wow, I just read the info on mousesavers. It sounds very confusing and not real promising. I am planning on getting my AP during my visit next month. My last one expired last November and I don't usually renew since it can be months after the renewal date before I go again.

I am also one of those people who change their minds. I started this coming trip off at CB and ended up going for WL. I guess I will have to make better decisions in the future or will they let you switch resorts? Unfortunately I don't plan 4 months out with EXACT dates. I frequently have to move the trip a week or two due to work. Do you think they will let you modify a reservation without penalty?

On the other hand, I've always wanted to try the swan and dolphin! This sounds like a good reason to start researching them for the next trip(sometime mid Oct-early Nov)!!

Steer clear of the Swolphin during conventions... I've been there during both GG Symposium, and IBM Lotusphere, as a convention participant some of the years, and as a vacationer some of the years. The atmosphere of the Swolphin utterly ____s for vacationers during a convention. Even staying at the Yacht Club nearby you sometimes catch a little bit of the overflow, but it's at not as bad.

Add me to the list of DISAPPOINTED AP holders. At least mine expires in August and I got 5 fabulous trips out of it and now I know I won't renew it.

ALL of my trips were booked only about 2 1/2 months out. There is NO WAY I want to book a trip over 120 days away. Disney is going to get screwed with this as it is us AP holders that often book those EMPTY rooms at the last minute.

We have had such a fun year of WDW trips! Usually we only go once/yr, but with these APs and cheap SW air, we just went wild! :earboy2:

I agree they are giving the most loyal customers the shaft. (can I say that?? ;) ) I absolutely don't want to be pushed into buying into DVC. Our family has spent a fortune at those Deluxe properties over the past 10 years and that is where I prefer to stay.

I think it is finally time to go back to Puerto Rico and Hawaii. Disney won't be at the top of my list any more. :guilty:

Another one who just bought DVC. Funny that they rolled out this new AP program right after the raised the prices on DVC. I am so happy with our decision, it just makes sense. We are not rolling in cash, but when we looked at what we were spending on accomadations, Dvc started making more and more sense. Someone said it earlier, and it is a business decision, they can fill the rooms up at rack, why give a discount??? It stinks, but can see why they did it....

Same here. I get calls from DVC and I would love to do it but it's just not in the cards for me right now.

What happened with Happy Limo?We used them once and they were Okay.Let us know and we may use someone else.

Very poor business to tick off your most loyal customers.

I have PAP's but will not renew. There is no way I would book any room with a nonrefundable deposit.

I suggest folks read the latest information about the new AP plan. There's apparently been a lot of misunderstanding about it.

Well that settles it for me. When my AP's expire I will not be renewing. I guess that also means less trips to Disney! I'm wondering if this really is a wise move for Disney? :confused3
