WE'VE BEEN HEARING ALOT OF RUMORS THAT DISNEY AS BOUGHT A LARGE PIECE OF LAND IN BRANSON, MO!! WE WERE WONDERING IF ANYONE KNOWS ABOUT THIS?

Just wondering where you have been hearing this rumor. There are TONS of disney rumors running around. but I haven't heard that one yet. Anyone else?

I heard that same rumor all the time when I lived in Springfield in the mid-1990s. What happened was that a Disney team was scouting for locations to build a DVC property down there in the early 90s, but nothing ever came of it. In southwest Missouri, such stories quickly get embellished ;)

I remember when the third US based Disney resort (after DL and WDW, obviously) was supposed to be built just outside Houston in the mid 1980s. I even had inside information from a co-worker whose husband worked for a contractor bidding on the job :p These types of rumors pop up all the time.

Is that the new park on the land they bought from the Texas Renaisance Festival, or the land near Dallas? :-)

A couple of years ago there were rumors of Disney buying up a bunch of land in St. Charles, Missouri (just West of St. Louis) for a secret project. But nothing ever came of it I am sure it was false.

What most people don't know is that Walt was planning on a park in St. Louis in the late 50's early 60's (his was fro Missouri you know) but that it was going to be non-alcohal, like Disney Land, and that would not fly with the powers that be is St. Louis politics, Anheuser Busch. So the idea was dropped.

As a resident of St. Louis County I can not help but wonder what a difference that would have made to the downtown St. Louis area through the years. I love St. Louis but a Disney park would have kept the downtown from many of it's problems and would have helped the entire area thrive!

Maybe TWA would have survived with all of the visitors, then we would not have to be dealing with American Airlines and it's exodise from Lambert Field.

If anyone knows where I can get any more information on the park that never was in St. Louis I would appreciate the info.

Bye Bye

Bye Bye [/B]

Jim Hill wrote about that once when he was with Mouseplanet.

His new website is JimHillMedia.com, and he may have that article posted. If not, I'm sure if you ask him he'll repost it or send you a copy. He's really nice like that!

Hi Yup,
I'm from Florissant and remember when Walt wanted to build his park on the riverfront. If I remember correctly, it was going to be enclosed in a glassdome as to protect it from the weather. I'm not sure if this would have worked, but it was very seriously considered.
Yeah, in hindsight, it's a shame that some people could have been so narrow-minded about the no alcohol request, that downtown and the whole region in general has suffered for it.
BTW, a couple of years ago right before 9/11, I had heard a news report that Disney was purchasing land near Troy, Mo for some project. Well, with 9/11, I didn't hear anymore about it as it was probably just rumor anyway.

IIRC, the book Married to the Mouse, which covers the entire development of WDW and Disney's interaction with the Florida and local governments during that time, touches (somewhat briefly) on Walt's original plans to build in St. Louis

Ever since I can remember there have been rumors of a Disney park being built near Farmington Missouri. There was always some story about land near our big boy scout camp ground being looked at or something. Although I would jsut love to have Disney in my back yard I just laugh now every time I hear the stories. Oh well, I can just keep wishing on a star!

There also was a rumor floating around last year that Disney had purchased some proerty in Niagara Falls Ontario, Canada.

Supposedly, Disney has permission to build seven parks on it's Florida property, so probably until they build 3 more in Florida, they might not build another park anywhere else in the USA.

I attended college at College of the Ozarks (then School of the Ozarks) in the early 80's, and the rumor was around then that Disney owned a bunch of land in the Ozarks for a park, due to the success of Silver Dollar City.

It wasn't true then, and it ain't true now.

They have already stated in recent press conferences that there are not going to be any more parks for the foreseeable future. They are going to work on the parks they have.

As far as the St. Louis project, there is a book called "Walt Disney's Missouri" by Brian Burnes, Robert W. Butler, and Dan Viets. In it are some fantastic photos of concept artwork for the park, as well as the entire story, along with the August Busch factor.

I think the park in Virginia was the only rumor that actually turned out to be true. Its just too bad that the Civil War buffs chased them out of town or I would have had Disney 5 miles from home (of course, I'm sure I wouldn't have bought my house so close to the park, if it had been built). Many of us Disneyholics here in VA are still hoping Disney will build in the DC area someday. :D
