Im from Australia, and ive heard reports from a contact in a national commercial realestate agency that Disney has been looking at a number of locations for a possible new Park....Supposedly they have narrowed it down to a number of possibilities in the Gold Coast area Gold Coast Info & Map Im just wondering if any of you guys have heard anything about this? it seem that they are at leas interested to a certain extent..what do you think of the possibility of it becoming a reality? interested to read your comments... Also there are allready about 5 or 6 theme parks in the area including Steve Erwin's "Australia Zoo" and Warner Bros. Movie world (where movies such as Spider Man, Inspector Gadget and some of the Matrix and Lord of the Rings trilogies were done) So there is certainly a market there, both local, national and international...

Would putting a park down in Oz not take away from the large number of Aussies who make the trek to the Disneyland resort every year ?

I don't think it would be a wise move on Disney's part.

China has a billion people and Disney are expecting about 5 million visitors per year to HKDL. Oz has 20 million. Is that enough to support a park? And what kind of park would it be? A Magic Kingdom.

I don't like this idea of franchising the MK until there is one on every corner like Starbucks. It takes the unique-ness of it and makes it commonplace.

::MickeyMo "Well hi there everybody!"

It could go either way, assuming that a new Disney park is built...

Another MK would be a mistake, I agree. Another AK might go down well though :) And Oz Land has a fair pull in terms of tourists, doesn't it? Maybe that would make it more realistic?

Or - more preferably - a totally new park concept :D Perhaps, building on the AK idea, a living earth park? Or more? You could have, amongst the typical fantasyland, a savanna environment, a living seas environment, a space environment? I don't know. But it could be fun, albeit at the same time a huge risk.

Ideas?

Happy surfing from Simba Cub :)

Yes, Australia's Wonderland in western Sydney is to close probably April, date not set. The reason for the closure is not known. Probaby to do with insurance premiums increasing at a great rate, and also Australia just does not have a large enough population in a country almost the size of USA.

Don't think it's economically viable. I would think India would make more sense, particularly given the economic growth in that country and the rising number of Indian wealthy individuals.
