I read the thread last week about new owners being able to purchase just 50 points at BLT and immediately shot off a message to our guide about it. Since we had just closed on 160, hubby and I were a bit perturbed that we had been required to purchase so many more points than we originally thought we would need. Our guide was out of the office at the time, and she just called us back about it all today. She told us that Disney rolled out a program for new owners to purchase 100 points at BLT early last week... but that 50 points was just a rumor. So, for any of you who were sitting on the fence about purchasing a small contract as new owners at BLT, 100 points IS available as an option to you direct through Disney. I only wish that had been the case when we purchased... but since we had already closed on our purchase on the 4th (prior to the offer being available to the public), we are out of luck.

Evey =)

I'm assuming this is for VGC as well? Did she happen to say what the per point cost was on the BLT points? Also wondering if this qualifies for the free extra points incentive? Thanks. :goodvibes

This would be great for me, I was tempted by AKV but really want BLT and after 2 resales that never went through I would like to buy direct.

I am waiting for a disney guide to get back to me now to confirm the price per point.

Thanks

Great! I'm glad the info was helpful to someone. If anyone does not already have a guide who would like to purchase from Disney, just shoot me a PM and I'll send you our guide's contact info. Our first guide wasn't so good, but our new one (that gave me the BLT info) is TOPS! =)

Dale, I didn't ask the details for the incentives as I know they change depending on individual circumstances. You can get extra discounts for number of points, for going to a sales presentation, even for staying in a moderate resort at the time you tour. I do know there ARE incentives at the 100 point level, but you'd have to ask your own guide about which ones apply for your situation.

I think I will call the guide that I have had contact with. So far she has been ok but not extremely timely with getting back to me.

My guide got back to me and said that the 50 and 100 points buy in for BLT is not official yet they are waiting for word on it maybe this week.

Stephanie (our guide) said the 100 point offer was already "in the system" when we spoke with her about it on Sunday afternoon. She said that the 50 point offer was not "in the system" and that she had been told it was just a rumor. Is your guide at one of the DTD offices or at Disney in Orlando? Ours is in Orlando... so if yours is there too, he/she should already have access to the 100 point offer.

I also just asked my guide, Bill Koontz, about 50 pts (two day ago) and he said he has heard about this but it's still just a rumor. He did offer info on 100 pt contracts on AKV, SSR, BLT and OKW (interesting huh) when I originally made contact 3 weeks ago. Are all the guides in FL? Do they lose out on comission if you buy from the Chicago or NY stores after you talk to them?

It would be noted in DVC system which guide you first had contact with so even if you go to DTD Chicago or NY, your initial guide still gets credit/commission if you purchase.

Wow, your guide said 100 point buy-in was available on resorts you noted in your post including BLT 3 weeks ago? If so, that's too bad for purchasers who weren't made aware by guides they purchased through in past 3 weeks & were told BLT minimum was 160pts :sad2:

I am pretty sure. I took notes. I was interested in 100 pt contracts and I knew they had them because most of my pre-information came from a friend who is already a DVCer. I had no interest in BLT so I didn't really get more than the first run-down. I was looking at AKV. I thought it was more weird that he offered OKW than BLT but at the time I didn't know that BLT wasn't a 100 pt aval. resort. Perhaps he knew it was down the pipeline in a couple days? I have no idea....

Thanks for the tid-bit on the commission. :)

Yep, we'd fall in that category for when we signed... but our first guide was NOT forthright about many things and we already knew that. We weren't placed with a new guide until just before closing, and of course, our new guide didn't realize we had asked for less points at the first meeting.

That's really unfortunate :sad1:. I hate when I feel like I have been left in the dark on something when I am making a big decision. If it makes you feel any better I told him I had no intention of buying on the spot or in the coming days as I was still talking everything over with DH. Perhaps I would have gotten different information if I was looking to sign on the dotted line?

I can understand how irritated you must be over this and I don't blame you. And while it may be beyond the point where dvc can 'right' this situation with you, maybe a letter to Membership Administration detailing your experience could help in future with sales info being more consistent.

Best wishes :goodvibes

I met with a guide at AKV on 29 April 2010 and specifically asked about BLT and 100 points. He said 100 points were only available for AKV, OKW, and GCV. Perhaps the change happened at the beginning of May?

We don't want 160 points so we crossed BLT off our feasible list. Resale contracts for BLT are scarce and 100 point contracts even more so.

Though now with Disney selling 100 point contracts outright, the resale market should have more 100 point contracts... eventually.

I met with a guide at BLT on May 10, (wanted to have a look around since I have not been able to see it in person yet). I am not a current member, and when the guide presented the various buy-in options, one of them was for 100 points at BLT (it was pre-printed on the payment information worksheet along with the option of 100 points at AKV). The 100 points at BLT would have cost $120 minus an incentive of $6 for a total of $114 per point.

Unfortunately we are not quite ready to purchase, but I was very tempted.

Hopefully, it will also increase the number of less than 100 point contracts in a few years.

New buyers wishing to purchase more than 100 points may be able to have their contracts split so that there is a single 100 point contract and the rest can be smaller contracts. When we purchased, we had to have the master contract meet the minimum point purchase.

For example, I believe someone buying 150 points at BLT could have this split into 3 contracts: 100 points to meet the master contract requirement, 25 points, and 25 points.

If anyone happens to be on the phone with their guide anytime soon....can you check for me if VGC at 100 points is an option and if so, at how much per point?

I have messages into two different guides and noone is getting back to me. :confused3
Must not be hurting for the sales. :rotfl2:

When DH called Disney a few weeks ago just to see what incentives they had I was floored that we could purchase with only 100 pts at AKL. We were all set to purchase resale, but since we could buy right on the spot I was like :cool1::banana::woohoo:
