New owner question?

Hi.....just settled yesterday on a resale of 200 poiints at BCV ....we have 83 points to use by Jan. we are going in NOV.20 to 23...my agent said I could call disney in one week and they should have us in their system and we should be able to get our member number and book.
My question is...what do you think my chances are of getting something then? I will take anything at BCV or BWV...studio..1 bed or 2 bed..
Don't think I would want to stay at the other villas....i think then I would use my points at one of the resorts..thanks...amy

I'll try to answer part of your question.

It sounds like you have a February use year, but it's not clear whether the 83 points you are talking about are 2005 points or 2004 points which were banked. If they are 2005 points, you would have until the end of September to bank all 83, and would be able to bank 50 by the end of October. If you can bank the points, you have many more options. If they are banked points, obviously they are use or lose.

With regard to making reservations, it usually takes about 10 working days to get you fully "in the system" so that you can use your points...sometimes quicker, sometimes a little slower. I would start calling at one week as suggested, but don't be surprised if it takes longer. You won't need your account number (which you won't have yet) all you'll need is your name, address, and other biographical info -- MS will be able to find you if you're there.

Also, don't be surprised if they tell you you are "in the computer" but there are no points in your account. Transferring the account to your name and actually putting the points in are two distinct steps and often occur on different days - usually in one day, and the points in the next.

Thanks for the quick response...actully we have 200 banked points from 2005 so we will get 400 in February...so we got a good resale
Yes...the 83 points are points that have to be used or lose by Feb. so going to use them in Nov. for either villa or resort...thanks for your help...amy

You'll find that your points buy you the most at OKW, since they built that resort first and set the points a little low there. For example, a Grand Villa at OKW during adventure season is 356 per week, where SS is 505. BWV is 558. OH, and since they were built first, they're also larger.

It's so inexpensive at OKW that I am able to sponsor a family reunion in a OWK grand villa for 6 days, twice every three years, when I only have 200 DVC points a year!

Nov 20-23 this year. That's Thanksgiving week, and only 3 months away. I'm not saying everything will be gone, but your pickin's might be slim.

It's not clear whether you're talking 3-nights (checking out the 23rd) or 4 nights (last night is the 23rd)

No matter what, you'll probably lose some of the points as it will be difficult to find some combination that will use exactly 83 points, unless your plan is to also borrow some of your 2006 points to complete a higher point vacation.

Considering just your 83 points:
You don't have enough points for more than 2-nights in a 2-B/R at BCV or BWV or more than 3 nights in a 1-B/R.

As for non-DVC resorts, you only have enough points for 2-nights maximum at any of the following: GF, Poly, YC, Contemporary, FW Cabins, or if you want higher categories such as Concierge, then you only have enough points for 1-night (EG AKL Concierge, Sun-Thurs = 49 pts/night.

You could get rooms at CB, CS, or PO for 15 pts/night Standard room, or 17 pts/night Water/Pool view.

If you want to maximize, you can get a 2-B/R at OKW for 3 nights PLUS a Studio for your 4th night, for 80 points., or get a 1-B/R for all 4-nights for 72 points.

But, as mentioned, if you plan to also borrow some of your 2006 points then you could use however many is necessary for whatever you decide to book.

Since it's Thanksgiving week. Availability may be your biggest problem.

Thanks for everyones help ...we will need 3 nights...I know it will be hard to book and also thought we could borrow points from 2006 it needed..If I can't get a DVC property..we will try for frqt or another resort that is available.....but will take what we can get to use those 83 points I am going to call at exactly one week from our settlement..
