New owners with a use year of Aug. We were originally going in April 17 but have had to move our trip back to Aug 17. I have already borrowed 114 points from 2017 to 2016. Is there a way to move these points back to 2017? Thank you.

No, those points expire 7/31/17. Can you go in July?

Sadly, no.
Some have gotten a "once possible undoing of banking or borrowing" but I do not know that firsthand, just what some have posted here.

If you also used Aug 2016 points for the April reservation you will be able to bank those into your 2017 UY after cancelling the April reservation but the borrowed points stay and will expire after July 31, 2017. As mentioned DVC sometimes gives a once in a lifetime exception but I also have no personal experience with that.

All,

Thanks for your expertise!! I think we will just try and rent them.
Likely the best option. Could you start the trip in July and use the banked points for that?

I have heard about DVC allowing banking beyond the window but I have never heard of points being put back that have been borrowed except in two cases. If you buy a new contract with Disney and it has points you could use, they will put back borrowed points so you can use the new points you just bought. And, I just learned that they would put back borrowed points for the cancellations due to a hurricane warning.

As mentioned, if you can't use them, a good idea is to try to rent a reservation to someone.

So we can't use them before July because we are currently stationed in Germany and a lot of things come into it with family and the military. We just decided it would work out best financially for us to go in August. I think that renting the points will help too since we will be on leave in the states for almost a month. We were already planning on renting points till our tour ends in 2020.

Depending on how many borrowed points you have to rent, I would hold off on banking those August 2016 points until you have a rental in place. Sometimes you might need more than the available borrowed points to facilitate a rental, so it's better to have some "current" points available to complete that. Sure, you can always borrow more to make things work, but why not have less banked points that can no longer be extended once banked.

I've banked points in holding when something came up and they were taken out of holding account status as well.

Call MS and tell them you are in the military and your available leave was changed and it is out of your control. I have experience (not military) with them giving great leeway for real life situations.

Yes, call the and explain your situation. They may be willing to put the points back into the use year as a special exception....

Interesting. Thanks!

One time DVC put my borrowed points back in the later use year. However that was because the member site was showing incorrect availability. I had booked a room at AKL & was planning to do a split stay at the Poly. But even though the website showed availability at the Poly, there wasn't any. Upon verifying the website issue, the CM I spoke with immediately offered to return the points from my AKV reservation if I wanted. They didn't make me wait for them to get permission or anything. But even though they have the ability to do this easily, I don't think it's likely when they haven't made a mistake.

I have also heard people mention the 1 time exception per membership. As a brand new member, you have to decide if you want to use that benefit right away or save it. 114 points is a lot to lose, so it'd probably be worth trying to get the exception. Good luck with whatever you decide!
