What a dissappointment!!! We have always enjoyed the lights probably one of our absolute favorite things during Dec trips. We had some family with us this trip who had never seen them and we had talked so much about how wonderful they were and then we saw them.........YUCK!! Lights thrown up on buildings, nothing creative or different- just lights strung up on buildings. I'm sad for those that never saw them before now.

Sorry you were disappointed with the lights. When we went in early November, we noticed that alot of the lights were already up. I miss residential street and was afraid with the loss of all those "houses", that the lights would lose some of it's granduer.

I never saw Residential Street, so I can't compare, but I really enjoyed them last week, I loved the color schemes. I had two friends with me who also enjoyed them, but they too never saw Residential Street.

You know, I kind of agree with the OP. We saw them for the first time this year and I also thought they were just kind of thrown up on the buildings. We, at our house, take a lot of time putting our lights up. I didn't really say anything about my thoughts on the subject, but when my husband and I were stringing our own lights, he mentioned how lame a job they did at MGM. Not creative. Just netting or something with the same colors on them. It was spectacular because of the amount of lights, but not very creative or inspiring. IMHO....

What are the times of the Osbourne lights? I am going next week and haven't put them into my Grand Plan yet:) When is the best time to see them? I saw the lights many years ago and I was mesmorized. This sounds disappointing.

I had never seen them before this year. My family and I kinda liked them! It was cool with the music and the snow falling too. I'm curious as to what they looked like in the past. They must have been amazing back then! :D

It starts at 6PM.

WARNING: The 'snow' WILL actually ruin lens coating. I use a B+W lens filters and ALL of them are ruined because of the 'snow' ate the coating.

Sorry for going off topic but....

So are the lens filters distroyed? Can you 'clean' them? Do you anticipate the same thing would have happened to unprotected lenses?

Odd that they dont warn of this in any way.....

Yes, the lens filters are destroyed. A couple hundred dollars down the drain. I don't know what they use for the 'snow', but it literally creates tiny circles on the spots where the 'snow' fell. I can clean most of the circles, but some of them stays. No amount of lens cleaner and polish can get rid of them. I "botched" 2 UV0 filters (one for my handycam and one for my digicam), 1 star-filter for my digicam, and 1 IR filter.

B+W filters are multicoated and regarded as one of the better brands. The same thing will happen to your lens.

Funny thing is that the 'snow' for MVMCP don't wreck my filters. I thought they are made of the same soap material. Maybe the ones at OL was much more concentrated.

We had never seen the lights before this weekend either, and we loved them! I thought it was fun.

The "snow" (at MGM and on Main Street in MK) also discolored my husband's jacket! A lady in front of us stuck out her tongue to catch a snowflake and was not too pleased with the taste when she caught one!!!

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that my leatherette camera bag is also severely ruined by the 'snow'. Discolouration City!

Good thing I wore a cap so my glasses were protected from the 'snow'

I never had the chance to see them, so I'm disappointed too.

First time this year seeing the lights so nothing to compare it too....but we liked them.

I didn't have any problems with my filters or lens on both of my cameras when I went to Osborne and MVMCP. I went several times without any problems with the cameras.

Like I mentioned, most probably on that night the soap concentration was too high. I didn't have that problem during MVMCP (went to three of them).

I actually enjoyed the new setting better than the residential street. I guess I had seen the original many times and the city streets are new and refreshing. I guess different strokes for different folkes. I liked both but I like the new layout better.

Is this still worthwhile to see for those of us who have never seen the osborne lights? I would think yes.....

I love the new Osbourne lights!!!! I wouldn't step foot back into the old ones. Too crowded. The new ones have plenty of room to walk around. Also nice to see all the snow.

If you have never been you will enjoy the lights. Go and experience them for yourself.

My whole family was disappointed w/ the new setting for the OL.
The industrial setting was just not the same as the houses. I agree that they do look like they were "just thrown up".
