New Orleans info please

The children's museum in New Orleans is fun (at least my kids liked it) and the Audubon Zoo was very interesting. You have to be careful with the zoo, especially if you are in NO during the summer, because it can get hot. Go early in the am or late afternoon.

One of my personal fave places in N.O. is the D-Day Museum. 'Course I'm a history buff too.

DEFINATELY get some beniets!

Check out the VooDoo Museum and do some of the Haunted Tours.

Also, stop by Pat O'Brien's and get a Hurricane for me!!!!

For the kids you can buy a package where you can do the Audubon Zoo and the Aquarium for a deal too.

DopeyRN, when did they close Mike Anderson's Restaurant on Bourbon St.? I had lunch at Mike Anderson's about 3 months ago.

Belle 1962, if I'm not mistaken, the Hilton is located next to Riverwalk, which is a shopping mall, next to the river. The trolley runs next to the Hilton and takes you along the river to the French Quarter. You can get off at Toulouse St. and be at Jax Brewery which is across from Jackson Sq. and in the Quarter.

I'm staying at a Marriott but it is in that area too.

I printed a coupon for Harrah's yeatserday;)

There are lots of great ideas here.

I'll second the suggestions for Galatoire's-209 Bourbon (very delicious, very upscale, very expensive) and Cafe Maspero-601 Decatur (very delicious, very casual, very reasonable).

Cafe du Monde-813 Decatur at Jackson Square also has iced cafe au lait (chicory coffee with steamed milk). It's hot and humid here now and it's a very refreshing treat.

Also, try the Shrimp Arnaud at Remoulade-309 Bourbon.

Try not to carry a purse if you walk through the French Quarter. If you have a money belt that goes under your clothing, it's much safer. Also, don't wear nice shoes (especially light colored ones) if you walk on Bourbon street at night.

PM me with any questions.

P.S. Gary M--Mike Anderson's is still open, I just called there.

N'Awlins is a big, little city. Your Marriott is really close to Bourbon and Royal, Harrah's, Convention Center, Aquarium of the Americas, Preservation Hall...all are within easy walking or short cab ride. I had never been there until about a year or so ago and have been back TWICE! It reminds me of San Francisco in that is has the naughty and nice all living together in harmony. Reminds me of....well, ME!

For shopping, you have to go down Royal Street...antiques, silk scarves, elegant, tres chic until you hit that bead and mask store....just fantastic and surreal. Just looking at the beads in these stores makes you laugh...before cocktails. Had to get DH the lite up kind they wouldn't allow in Disney!

While you are there you can stop by one of my favorite restaurants ..The Court of Two Sisters! This place just really spoke Big Easy to me. Don't get me wrong...Emeril's and Nola's have better food but the atmosphere at the Court is what I looked for...wrought iron, old, cobbled floor....make sure you get a table outside. If you are there on Sunday, go for brunch. DH and I are NOT buffet people but LOVED this brunch....we sat there for hours...talking, drinking and eating.

I bet you'll be like me and want to go again...and again...and again. It's kind of like a big, old, huge PLEASURE ISLAND with tons of FREE entertainment!
