We are thinking of going to New Orleans next summer, likely in early August. We will tour the city for 3-4 days & then do a 5-day cruise.

We've vacationed in Disney in August & survived,,,just got back last weekend. Is the heat any worse in New Orleans??

BTW, any suggestions for what to see & do are also welcome:thumbsup2

I wouldn't say the heat and/or humidity is any worse than being in Florida. New Orleans is a great place to visit. I love going to Cafe du Monde early in the morning, order beignets and hot chocolate (yes even in the summer), strolling around the french quarter, riding the trolley in the garden district, there are just too many things to do and see.

expect the same kind of heat but with LOTS of mosquitoes! It's definitely still swamp country. Take a buggy ride, do a graveyard tour, eat a beignet (like a funnel cake), if you like daquiris go to "ralph and cucoos" (i think i spelled it right). jackson square is nice, but there are tons of things to see and do just by sticking your head in doorways! are you going outside of the city too or just staying in n.o?

duh! totally forgot...the audobon zoo, the house of the rising sun - like the one in the song!

I Love daquiris...lol.

I'm not sure how much we can squeeze into a 3-4 day stay. We've gone to Florida so much in the last few years that we really want to do something a little different next year. I'm open to all ideas folks can offer. DD will be 12 & DS11 at that point and I'm looking to keep them entertained as well.

Thanks to all for your quick responses!!

I took my 4 kids about 3 weeks ago for 2 nights. We stayed in the garden district in a cute little hotel with a spiral staircase in the room, rode the trolley, ate cheesecake at Copelands. There was a great deal going where you can go to the zoo, aquarium, insectarium and IMAX all for $33 adults and I think around $19 for kids. It was a cheap weekend getaway. I didn't notice any mosquitoes, and the heat was no different than where we live in FL, but the zoo is the only outside activity that we did.

I made a little mini-book if you are interested...

I can honestly say I was WAY more miserable in New Orleans in June than I was at WDW in July. The humidity was way worse. But it's still an awesome city...I would go anytime and have a blast!

If you were there this June we had a horrible heat wave through this part of the country in June, it was 100+ for about 2 weeks straight. Definitely was not "normal". Glad you still had a good time!

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed looking at the pictures.

I'm glad to hear that it isn't much worse than Florida. We're getting a good deal on the cruise ($1600/5days/4ppl) that I really want to enjoy the city too.

I have never been but my thought is that visiting NO will be way different because you won't be outside waiting in lines to ride rides. Some of your stuff is indoors and you can always duck in a restaurant to grab a drink or something.

I would think the heat/humidity/bugs are less of a concern than hurricanes. That could really mess you your trip.

However no way to predict so you take your chances there.

We gave cruised out of New Orleans a couple of times, its an easy port to get to. I'm guessing the Triumph will be there by the time you go, should be a nice ship :D Hope you have a great time!!
