my 11yds has cp and encephlopathy. He participates in challenger baseball and after school bowling (we are really lucky because the owners son was in his class for a year and they go out of their way for sp. needs children). He can walk and run and does most things others can do on a much smaller scale. Has problems catching balls. He take a swim class at the y (very good teacher). We have tryed sp. olym. but it is at least a 30 min. drive from home. I am looking for other activities in the toledo oh area that are available and more like challenger baseball. Does anyone else have any ideas. Yonger ds5 is currently doing swimming, tumbling, and basketball but has been diagnosised with sid and my husband thinks as he gets older he may need to join his brother. I appreciate the ideas
Thanks in advance

I don't have any ideas, but am bumping this up for you.
One suggestion might be to talk with the other parents from the things he is already in. I know some of the others in my DD's dance class are involved in other programs that I was not aware of.

Contact the Greater Toledo Aquatic Center. They have an a wonderful adaptive swim program. Every year they have a disabled swim meet in Michigan that is IPC (International Paralympic Commitee) sponsered. (That's not an easy task to get done)

My son participates in Special Olympics Golf. We live about 45 min from a major city so I don't like to drive either. Our golf lessons just happen to be a a local country club just a few minutes from our home. You can contact your local S.O. committee or the State office to see if anything is offered closer to your home. And, we love this sport because he doesn't compete against anyone only his own scores.

Our local parks & rec just started a Karate for Special Needs kids. My son loves it, and I'm actually very surprised how well he is doing.
He also plays shooting stars basketball. They have challenger baseball and soccer too, but he gets tired running too easily so we have not done these for the last few years.
