Thanks for your help in advanced. We are not doing meal plans and staying off site. My family are not big eaters and never really plan our dinners while on vacation, just go with the flow basically. I'd like to plan 1 character dinner. If you were only going to 1 place where would you pic, My kids are 4 and 1. I'm thinking Breakfast that way I don't need to worry about making it on time, bfast and then a day at the park sounds fun.

Thanks for you help.

That is a easy but tough question to answer. It is easy because there are so many character breakfasts to choose from, it's hard because I wouldn't be able to choose just one :rotfl:. First off, do you have both boys, both girls, boy and girl? I ask because it may alter my answer a bit. If you have both girls then I would say go with Akershus Breakfast in Norway at Epcot which you will be dining with the Princesses. Get an early ADR (before the park opens), it is one of our favorite character meals. For 2 boys, I would go with O'hana's Breakfast (they have Lilo and Stitch, Mickey, and Pluto)...very good food and very good character interaction. For both boy and girl, I would suggest CP which is Pooh and the Gang, CM which is the fab 5, or our personal favorite Cape May Cafe at the BC. This has Goofy, Minnie, and Donald (our second favorite character meal). Good luck deciding.

I agree that choosing one would be too hard for us, since my children really love the character interaction that they get at the meals. And this cuts down on the time that we spend chasing characters around the park and waiting in lines for an autograph. We have gone to most of them and this trip in Feb 2011 we will be adding Akershus princess:, and Cape May!

Our top three (in random order) would be:

1900 Park Fare (mary poppins and friends- harder to find chacters and mDH swears it is the best food at all the breakfasts.)
Chef Mickey (well, it is chef mickey and has become a must do on all of our trips)
Ohana - (Lilo and Stitch - They get the kids up and have a parade and the food was great too!)

Honorable mention
Tusker House - (Donald and friends - also has the Best Juice!)

Least Favorite -
Crystal Palace - (Food was so-so, Least character interaction)

I would choose your kids favorite characters then go with that meal. It really is all about the one on one time with the characters at their age, not really the food. When our kids were little the character meals were one of there very favorite part of the trip because they got to see the characters in a more intimate setting. IMO its a must.

I would choose something the 4 year old would be into. Not sure if you have boys or girls. A 4 year old girl would LOVE the princess meals at Akershus. Much better food and interacting than CRT if you ask me.

Crystal Palace with Pooh and Friends is probably safe with kids that age too

Honestly?? Here's my take on it then...

We have not done ALL of the character breakfasts, not by a long shot, but we have done quite a few of them, and here's the one thing we have discovered.. the food is all pretty much the same. Yeah, there will be a few differences, a few unique items, but you will pretty much get scrambled eggs, bacon and/or sausage, pancakes, mickey waffles, fresh fruit, breakfast potatoes, etc. You can check out the menus by going to the Dining section up there ↑ and see if anything catches your eye.

SO. If the food is pretty much all the same, what it really boils down to is, what characters do you really want to see, and where do you want to be? Our favorite character breakfast is Crystal Palace, not so much because of the food (although the puffed French Toast is quite yummy) but because of location. Time your ADR properly and you can get into the park at 8 AM and have some marvelous empty-park picture taking opportunities as you walk down Main Street to get to your breakfast, then, after breakfast, there you are, already in the park, no waiting at the turnstiles with the rest of the masses. (Note: you still can't get into the rest of the park till 9, when the park officially opens, but you are just a step ahead of everyone else at 9, because you are already inside). This is also a good place for Pooh fans, and a good place to see Piglet and Eeyore, who can be hard to see otherwise.

Breakfasts like 1900 Park Fare and Ohana are good choices because they are opportunities to see hard to find characters like Lilo (Stitch too, but he isn't quite so difficult) or Mary Poppins. Akershus is good because you can get your Princess viewing out of the way without having to pay the exorbitant prices at CRT, and also because, like Crystal Palace, it puts you inside a park.

Chef Mickey is a fun location, and a Disney tradition for many and, well, its MICKEY for pete's sake... but I think the food quality has gone downhill a bit, sadly.

Cape May cafe at the Beach Club is another option - Minnie, Goofy and Donald in "Beach" costumes. I think there is a breakfast at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom as well with Donald in safari gear. We did that one 3 years ago, and it was quite unremarkable - again the only benefit was that it put us IN the Animal Kingdom pre-opening.

Good luck in whatever you choose - I guarantee your children will remember the characters, and NOT the food. :)

My kiddos, at Crystal Palace at dinner before MNSSHP this year.
There was a large group of us, all dressed as characters from Peter Pan. The character interaction was wonderful; Tigger tried to steal "Captain Hook's" hook and run away with it, and my step-dad asked Piglet if there was ham on the buffet line. Piglet did the "staked through the heart" routine then walked away, shaking his head in dispair...

we went to Crystal Palace for dinner with a 4 and a 5 year old this past May and we had a great dinner and great character interaction....even when our GD didnt want to eat what was on the buffet.....The waiter went and got her a p and j sandwich......she was a happy princess.

For breakfast characters we did the Tusker House breakfast and it was very good and characters were there twice at our table...
We also did the Princess breakfast in Norway. Our grandson who was not quite six yet enjoyed the attention....us growups enjoyed the food as it was excellent.

We have done breakfast and dinners at Chef Mickeys and also just breakfast at Hollywood and Vine.......not as good but we still had plenty of choices to eat and the kids were happy...

We've done all the character breakfasts except Cape May.

Favorite for Food: Ohana
Favorite for Atmosphere: Play n Dine at Hollywood & Vine. It wasn't crowded, characters weren't in a hurry, and the food was fine. DD danced with CM more than once. You just don't need to be in a hurry if you go here. Characters are: Leo & June from Little Einsteins, Special Agent Oso, & Handy Manny. SA Oso is replacing JoJo.

If you ate there 3 years ago, then you didn't eat at Tusker House, you ate at Donald's Breakfastosauras at Restaurantosauras. I know because I ate there in Sept of 07. The Tusker House breakfast is different.

My son loves Hollywood and Vine b/c of the sing/dance ever 15 mins and musical parade. He loves Crystal Palace (we go for lunch) and Tusker House Breakfast too.

Yes, that sounds familiar.

I told you it was unremarkable...LOL :rotfl: Apparently un-rememberable too!!

I like Crystal Palace. We've never had a bad meal there and the characters pretty much appeal to anyone.

Thanks. I'm so new at this. Every place I looked only listed bfast so I just assumed. I'm thinking we'll try for a dinner maybe. My son is 4 and not really 100% into charaters, more for rides. So I'll just have to decide now. I'm sure once my DD gets older it will be more for her.

If you're going for dinner, I love Crystal Palace buffet. Great food. We also like 1900 Park Fare for dinner, but it's more girly what with it being Cinderella. Your son might not like that as much. We don't care for Chef Mickey's, but it does have Mickey and friends - the food just isn't for us.

Editing to Add: Garden Grill in Epcot is fabulous as well. We really enjoyed the food there, and the character interaction was the best we've ever had at a character meal. Chip, Dale, Mickey and Pluto are the characters there.

I completely agree!

Just throwing it out that Crystal Palace is my favorite character meal (for dinner). Followed by Garden Grill, which I think has the best character interaction.
