New Netflix pricing!

We use streaming everyday as we do not have any local TV. I happily just changed to the streaming only for $1 less, I am very happy. :goodvibes

The DVDs would sit around for months at a time, unwatched. One less thing to worry about dropping in my mail box and hoping the mail carrier notices it is outgoing (the outgoing slot is not wide enough). Or wondering where the pesky envelope went to send it back.

Yes some of the streaming is old, lots of foreign films and some that you wonder "who the heck paid to make this drivel?" But we have found some really great shows and movies that we never heard of before and would never have picked up at a pricey rental place.

** if you have DVDs at home and are switching to streaming only.. pop the DVD into the mail right away. If they don't get it back in 7 days they will charge you $14.99 each!

"Since this is a no-DVD plan, you will need to return the DVDs you have out within 7 days of starting this plan. Unreturned DVDs will be billed at $14.00 ($20.00 for Blu-ray) each plus tax."

My mom has it and I was looking thru it the other day. It has some decent movies but many are old. I'm on the fence about it and I would get the streaming only option to use thru our Wii. I think this is the wave of the future. No more dvd's and many people will just buy movies thru their blue-ray or game system. It would be easier than having lots of movies collecting dust.

I get this message......

Your plan is no longer offered
You are currently on the 1 DVD out at-a-time (Unlimited) for $8.99 plan which is no longer offered. If you select a new plan, you will no longer be able to return to this plan.

Copied straight from the netflix site in my account.

See post #16.

So glad I just canceled. We started using redbox and like it so much better.

I really liked Redbox quite a bit. My only problem with it (other than standing in a line with people behind me waiting for me to pick my movie) was that the closest Redbox is about 5 miles away. I don't go to the store every day so many times I would have to go out just to return the movie. And when gas was $4 a gallon, it made the deal not so good. I love that Netflix comes in the mail. We pretty much receive 8 or 9 movies each month, so with the streaming, it is a bargain.

Some people seem to think that the movies that stream are old. I have 2 thoughts about that.

1. They have many movies that are not old. Lots of Disney movies (including Alice in Wonderland) and many others that are less than 2 years old.

2. In case you didn't think about it, in the movie world, the newer ones are not that good. The older ones are great. Yeah, the clothes are not current, the actors might not be living now, but they are great movies none the less.

When you try to find a movie, go to GENRE and pick one. Then go to SEE ALL then chose SORTABLE LIST and then filter through the RATING category.

I have found so many good movies that I never would have watched but gave them a try because of the rating (shoot for 4 stars!). The Boy in the Striped Pajamas comes to mind. I had never heard of it, but gave it a try. I cried, but it was a really good movie. What about the movie Woman Thou Art Loosed? Ever see it? If you liked Diary of a Mad Black Woman, it is along those lines, but a drama, and a great one at that. Or A Soldier's Story. That is a great movie.

How about the movie The Longest Yard? No, not the Adam Sandler one, but the original with Burt Reynolds (as the lead). That is an excellent movie! What about On the Waterfront? One of the best movies ever made. Yeah, it is black and white, but you don't see movies as well done as this today.

What about documentaries? Do you know that that streaming is chock full of Frontlines (PBS)?

I could go on (I know, I went on too much as it is!), but I need more coffee.:surfweb:

I also wish they had a plan with NO streaming. Streaming is not an option for us out in the sticks and we have never used this feature. I hate to pay another $3 for something I cannot use. NOT cool Netflix!

How do you stream to your iPod?

As they say, there's an app for that. You do have to be in an area where wifi is available, but since I use it at home, it is not a problem

I got the e-mail either last night or this morning about the change in the January billing cycle.

I also subscribe to a newsletter called InsideRedbox and there was a link to an article about problems Netflix may have if the USPS goes under, because they purchase $600 billion in postage from the USPS annually. This may be one reason they offering streaming only.

We tried Netflix with mailed DVDs in the past and hated it. At least half of the DVDs we got were unplayable, and we ended up at Blockbuster for something to watch that night. I have tried the streaming on my iPad and liked it, so we may give the streamign only plan a try. -- Suzanne

Hmmmm? Must be something wrong at your distribution center. Yes, I've gotten the occasional bad disc, but very few have been "unplayable". Another problem that happens with the DVDs is that the local post offices sometimes break the discs. All postal employees are suppose to be instructed to not run the Netflix envelopes through the sorting machines because they break the discs, but some choose to ignore it. Personally, I only had that happen once, but it breaks the disc in half.

I was thrilled since I really only use it for streaming.... especially for educational stuff for my boys (home schooling).

When I read about the price changes I also read that they are looking into getting a lot more and newer movies to stream since this is what so many people are wanting... hoping this is true!
