I'm a LONG-time FlyerTalk participant and agree that it is a wonderful site with lots of great information. I am also well aware of the many rental car codes available on that site.
I just want to clarify why I don't put all of the codes from FlyerTalk (and other boards) on MouseSavers.com. Rental car codes are posted to public boards by a variety of folks who may or may not know the source of those codes and the restrictions on them. Some of the posters are pretty accurate and ethical. Some are not. The codes they list are not always reliable.
For instance, I know for certain that some of the codes found on FlyerTalk are
travel agent codes that technically require a valid IATA (travel agent association) card. Now, the truth is that National and some of the other rental car companies are not consistent about enforcement. You may get away with using such a code... or you may get a stickler at check-in and experience a gigantic hassle when you are asked for travel agent ID.
I am extremely careful to "vet" any codes I list on my site for accuracy, and I work hard to make sure I'm listing only codes that are intended for the general public. Before I list a code on my site, I almost always know the original source of it, and what restrictions (if any) apply. I also will not knowingly list codes that are supposed to be used only by travel agents, members of private organizations, etc. I'm certainly not infallible, but I do a huge amount of "due diligence" in researching the codes I put on my site.
In short, my goal is not for the MouseSavers lists to be "exhaustive," but rather to be accurate and dependable. If you choose to use the random rental codes you find posted on various boards, I sincerely wish you well in doing so. But don't complain if you run into a problem when you pick up the car!
