Anybody have a house that has both. Tell me the differences.

DD(10) is getting one w/ her Christmas $$. Her sister, and Dad have the last year nano. She is deliberating, and trying to determine if she wants the new version, or get a refurbished gen3. I told her that I'd get the refurb, and spend the $50 savings on music, but i really don't care one way or the other.

Is the new one that much better than the older model?

BTW--Now I'm jealous--I'm the only one in my family, with the big ole bulky one:upsidedow

I just bought the 3G in November, the reviews on the new one weren't so great. For me, it wasn't about the $$, but which one I would like better. The 3G is so small, I couldn't imagine having the newest one!

I only have the 3 gen and it works pretty good. It's very light and compact. Amazon still sells new 3 gen nanos. The 8 GB are 168.85 and the 4 GB are 144.49. The 4th gens have a bigger screen for video watching but I really don't download much videos so I don't mind the 3 gen. The 4th gens offer more colors.

I got the 4th generation for Christmas. It replaces my 3 1/2 yr old ipod mini!
I love it so far! You can read the differences if you scroll down here. I think Wikipedia is ok for comparing such things:

DD has the 3rd generation and is jealous of mine. You can even shake it to shuffle (tilt sensor). Here is a cnet review:

You can find a 8 gb 4th gen. for as low as $139 at Costco (16 gb for $189). 3rd generation 8gb ran $199 when new.
I would go with the newest/latest version! :) You are getting more for your $$.

I got a 4th generation nano for Christmas. I really like it so far. The cover flow thing is a really nice addition.

The latest build is better looking than the 3G :teeth:

DD11 got her last year and DD8 got her's this year, I have one before the one DD11 got (so we have 3 different generations). We aren't noticing any differences. All the cords work on any of them.

I have the 3G Nano and bought my mom the 4G as a birthday gift in November. Honestly, I prefer the shape of my 3G over the 4G. Perhaps it's because I'm used to it, but I like how it fits in my hand. The screen size of the two different versions is exactly the same (though the 4G has to be turned on its side). My mom found the shake to shuffle feature annoying on her 4G and turned that off. Other things to keep in mind: the 4G picture is clearer and the 3G battery life is rumored to be slightly longer. If you're looking for more memory though, the 16gb 4G Nano would be a great option.

DH ordered me a silver 4th Gen Nano - after reading these posts, i can't wait for it to arrive! :goodvibes
