New Mug Design?

Does anyone know when a new refillable mug will come out? We are going in August 2012 and we already have the beach themed mug... Hoping a new one will be out by then... THANKS!

I think it's still the same. Someone asked about a month ago, and after a ton of messages accusing the person of just trying to find out so they could bring and reuse their old mugs to "steal" drinks, it was finally answered as it was still the beach one. So just a warning....here they come.

Lol! Thanks for the warning.... If people want to flame me, so be it... I have broad shoulders.. However, I was writing to REALLY find out if and when the deisgn would change.... I have been to Disney numerous times and we honestly were just hoping we would get new mugs this time... We buy them each trip (we don't steal pop)... and we have basically a "collection" so to speak of them at home... They are great for coffee, tea, etc. So, I HONESTLY just wanted to know if we were going to luck out and get a new design... Scouts honor! That's the truth!

This has been "fixed" by Disney. Only Disney mugs will work and it will only work for a short period of time past your stay.

And besides, I believe with every level of dining plan this year you get a refillable mug. So there should be no need to bring your old ones...if someone is doing that.

I would love it, if someone remembered when the new designs came out last year... That was all I really wanted to know... Just wanted to get a new design this year...

Mugs are based on the THEMES. (current theme is Let the Memories Begin) Themes tend to last 2-3 years.

The switch to the current theme happend in January 2011. And they continued to use the older mugs (what will you celebrate) for a while till they ran out. So I would not expect new mugs until at least Jan 2013 or there abouts.

Last week at the MK I saw two girls carrying mugs that had the Disney characters on the teacups. They were the same size and look as the mugs we were given(the old ones) but a different design. I wasn't sure if maybe they were from one of the parks or if maybe one of the resorts had new mugs out.

I too have a collection of mugs. I love them, I look forward to getting a new one in september, so I too hope the style changes by then. I love them because I have a story about each mug from all our trips. My faves are when they used to have different ones at each resort.

I bet new mugs will come out in 2013. That's when all of AOA will be open, along with the completed Fantasyland Expansion. Sounds like a good time for a new theme.

We do the same thing we have our collections and We love all our mugs! We have a space between the ceiling and cabinets in the kitchen so that holds our mug collection. We even have the ones you can buy at the parks up there! We love getting the new ones. Since there is 4 of us we use 3 as every day use ones and then one becomes our "show piece" My hubby and I use them daily for a little piece of magic.

Nope that was the magic kingdom ones. Each park has those you can buy they are not refillable at the parks just something fun to buy and bring home. Each park has their own design. They are $5 (or at least they were this past August) and it is fun to have those too, makes a nice collection!

I finally broke down and threw some of ours out!!! Not easy. Since there are 4 of us we had quite the collection. We are using 3 as pencil holders (the older ones with the wide bottoms) I have one at work and then I kept one of each for the memory. Drinking coffee out of my all time faveright now- one from Coronado Springs. All of the pics have worn away...but it is the perfect size mug and is my go to for coffee. ( I even threw its counterparts out!!! Mainly because they couldnt even be stacked and take up so much room- My husband even saw them in the trash and said "You are throwing your mugs out?")

I was actually going to ask the same question about the mugs. We go during free dining so we get them free, I do not bring back the old ones. It would just would be nice to have a different design.

I remembered DisUnplugged had a blog about the new mugs when they came out. The blog was published 2/26/2011, so as bookgirl points out there was a bit of time between the new theme and the switchover to the new mug.

I'm hoping for new mugs as well. Not that it actually matters, but it would be fun to have a new set. We'll be there at the end of August and early September.

I did this before our last trip in January. I threw away all of the mugs where the pictures were coming off and the ones that just didn't look pretty any more, I did keep some just for memory though. I have a ton of the beach themed mugs, since we went last May, and then we did a split stay (both stays with the DDP) this year. I will be fine, when we return for our trip later this year, if they are the same mugs, but I will probably have to throw some more of the older beach themed mugs away just to make room for the new ones. I do have one mug that I will never in a million years get rid of, and it is a rarity if I use it because I don't want it to get ruined....I have an old WL resort mug that I got when they used to do resort specific mugs. I got it back in 2005 (first year we went with my kids) and I believe it is one of the last resort specific mugs because when we returned 2 years later, that is when they went with the themed mugs throughout WDW.

The last design we have is the red one so I am excited to see any new design. One of my handles is falling off and I still can't throw it away. Lol.
I loe the ideal of displaying them above the counter. We have the same space.......I feel a redecoration coming on........LOL
