New MK Paid Disney After Hours Event Announced

The way they roam is different but there are lines. Not as long but also not as many people. Percentage of may be the same
But, WDW will never do it again. People are too damn rude now. The only reason it works in CA is you have a percentage of guests who aren't in to characters

Oh, we're into the characters plenty. But consider the number of people during a "normal" day at DLR vs WDW. My first hint that WDW wasn't at all going to be like DLR came when I saw the massive, massive WDW queues. Even though DLR is now routinely crowded enough to require overflow queues into NOS and back again over the bridge into AL, it's still waaaay shorter than the real estate taken up for the POTC queue at WDW.

The characters, while plentiful, don't ride the rides, yo, although it is an awfully lot easier to meet them at DLR than it has been for us at WDW

Um yes they DO ride the rides with guests! We have ridden the Teacups with Alice and the Mad Hatter, the carousel with Mary Poppins and Bert, and I have seen Peter Pan and Wendy ride that ride with guests. These characters routinely join guests for rides in Fantasyland. Just saw it last week. Peter Pan also routinely takes kids hands and skips through the park "looking for Tinkerbell."

I am totally on the fence about this. I don't know all the details to know if 149 dollars is worth* it. It very well could be*, but without knowing what is included and how it would impact park hours. Also if this is a midnight closing and get to stay to 3am deal, or a 8pm closing and stay to 11pm deal would greatly change my perspective. Since the former would be attractive to me since there wouldn't be anything else to do at Disney during those hours, but the later would not because there are a lot of other things to do and it would negative impact other guests.

*Based on Disney's inflated scene of worth, since nothing on Disney property is worth the pricetag without the Disney name attached. Can we all just admit we are Disney brand-whores. Disney is to us what Louis Vuitton is to Kevin.[/QUOTE
150 for 7 hrs isn't bad? Parties at MK have been appx $70 for 8 hrs in the park, and those DO have special shows and entertainment. How in the world is a shorter event, with no extra entertainment, worth double what a party costs? There's no way I can eat or drink that additional $80 in ice cream and bottled drinks...

Two Words:

Fewer
People

So a ticket for a regular day is, what now, $110 and that's for 13 hours? 9:00 am to 10 pm? And EVERYTHING is open. Or I can pay $150 for 7 hours. And only SOME things are open. Oh, but I get a Mickey bar and a bottle of soda?

A-A-And fewer people, which I rather think in this instance is the Dumbo in the room

I am glad you have had that experience. We've had APs at DLR since 2004 and the closest we've come to seeing a character on a ride is Darth Vader, on Dumbo, on a T-shirt

This is simply a cash grab - no "special event" like at Christmas or Halloween.

How will Disney decide on "regular" hours Versus "EMH" Versus "special events" in future? Troubling

Disney has a habit of limiting the number of people allowed into an event to what the venue will hold, or slightly over that.
Since the MK has a projected capacity of 100,000 people, they are likely limiting the crowds to whomever buys a ticket.
Calling it "Limited" will give everyone the illusion that they are "special" and allow them to delude themselves into thinking that they have spent $149.00 + Tax wisely. :rolleyes2

We encountered Bert teaching kids to walk like a penguin

If This truly is the beginning of the end for extra magic hours and it is a genius move by Disney. This move not only monetizes extra magic hours, but now they can tout how they "solved" the crowded Park problem, and more importantly it will drive guests to the "free" Disney Springs where they will be free to spend all their money fun shopping and food.

Ohhh, how I hope that you are wrong. But I'm starting to think that you are right.

Well said, Uncle Mike

At first glance the price for this new event seems outrageous. But eh, I can see where it could be worth it, depending.

I remember e-nights! We loved them. I think the first ones might have been $7(?). We always took advantage. Evening EMH crowds do not compare to what e-nights were like. I have pictures, and memories of riding favorites over and over.

Doing this new event as an add-on to a multi-day ticket wouldn't be worth it to me, because $149 added to a regular admission, even a multi-day ticket, is too much. But I'd consider it in place of a 1 day ticket ($115) as long as it gave access to a few hours of regular attendance park time (which entry at 7pm does as long as the park closes at 10pm) and then the 3 hours of no crowd hours. $149 is not that much more than $115 for 6-7 hours, considering 3 hours of very low crowds.

I also think an event like this could be worth it to people interested in saving time and not experiencing any of the "magic" besides rides and maybe some characters. And those looking to visit one time only (and possibly could get them wanting to come back). And of course, those that are looking for something special or have lots of extra cash.

EMH has been too limited for awhile now for us to use. I don't think we've used it in a few years. We like to sleep late on vacation so morning EMH is out. Only park worth staying up late for is MK, IMO. We'll be at WDW for 5 nights next month and there aren't any MK evening EMH scheduled for our nights. I'd much rather see something similar to the old e-nights for resort guests for a reasonable price. A $149 event is not it, unless I was buying 1 day tickets. (One of the inflation calculators just showed me $12 in 2002 is worth $16.06 in 2016. $16-$20 added to a multi-day ticket would be reasonable to me.)

I believe it will. Look at the hours for June, July, and August. Not one night shows MK past 10pm. Also, the EMH that they do show for MK don't even have the (2) listed to let you know they have 2 hours of EMH. These would have been updated by now in years past. I think they are going to try to shut it down at 10 most nights which would have to make me cancel my trip. We have a 10 day park hopper. We ALWAYS stay late. I am not giving up 20 hours over that period of time for the money we are spending(especially since we've always had til midnight in June).

Yup yup yup. Am arriving 5/30 for next trip and had noticed when doing my usual spreadsheet that the MK seemed to be closing unexpectedly early that week.
