New MK Paid Disney After Hours Event Announced

Fascinating that some of the comments have been allowed on the parks blog. Not a one says anything close to "woohoo...can't wait" LOL.

• I think this sounds like an excellent value for folks who may not visit often (or at all). From what I’ve read on this article, the event begins at park close, but you may enter beginning at 7pm. So you would get 6-7 hours with very short lines and unlimited ice cream and drinks… it would cost $40 more than a regular ticket and you could avoid the extremely crowded lines. Sounds cool. I also doubt that Disney will announce just how many people will be allowed in the event… theme parks don’t typically advertise their capacity.

I have a 14 Day Ultimate Ticket over our stay which includes some of these dates, do I need to buy more tickets so I can get access to this? Not that I would, but id love to go in when its less busy… I’m hoping the Ultimate Ticket covers it!

Very short lines? I don't see that happening, especially at 7pm. I think they are selling something they can't deliver. I can just see the riot when 7DMT has an hour wait.

That's the one piece of it I actually believe. I mean, it's not like you're going to stuff your pockets full of ice cream to take home for later.

I view that the same way I view the trick or treat candy at MNSSHP and cocoa and cookies at MVMCP.

We've stayed at Portofino three times and two out of those three times I have seen VIP Tour Guides from WDW picking up guests there to shuttle them over for the day. Both times they were Brazilian families (large-ish groups, I assume extended family). I think this absolutely could be targeting onsite Universal customers to come over to WDW for a (very expensive) night. In addition to other groups too of course.

My dh convention is at The Ritz Carleton. In the morning, while I am waiting for my rental car, I usually see 3 or 4 families waiting for their cars with 2 Disney CM's. I also see them in the morning when we stay at The Beach Club. You don't see them too much in the parks, since they use different areas to get around, but occasionally we have been on a few rides, and notice a whole group of people, and then you see the VIP tour guide. My dh boss and his family use the guides, they said they wouldn't do it any other way. They can afford it, we cannot.

I think you're on to something there! Of course, they're not going to give something away that you could grab a bunch of and stick in your backpack. No cookies or candy that you could wrap up and go back for lots more! No, we'll give them ice cream because they can't stuff their pockets full of those! Thereby we give the illusion of unlimited, but in reality who's going to take more than they can realistically eat in between rides? Once again, pure genius!

Interpret that as you will. There is room in there for it to be "unlimited" or there is room in there for them to say "one per customer".

For the same price as the ticket for 3 extra hours in the MK, (a park that most people will be going to already at some point in their trip), that same family could spend an entire day at Universal with Two-Park Passes.

Yep, and I would definitely do this now if I hadn't already purchased tickets because as many have noticed they announced where all the date are within 60 days (ie onsite guests have already made plans and purchased tickets). I'd drop several days in a New York Minute if I could.

But space is a valued commodity at WDW, and from 7:00pm-11:00pm, and then again during the parade, space has been taken away from me and sold to others.

They mark your band at MNSSHP so you only get one Socerer's card, they could do the same for the drink/ice cream. Heck they could print the armbands with a special box to check when you get each item.

You know, it's stories like this that keep me reading on the DIS. But for the life of me, I don't remember that one! It should definitely be in the DIS hall of fame though!

Just heard about the very expensive after hours party. All I can say is "Wow". I thought that the Halloween and Christmas parties were overpriced, but this is insane. For a $149 per ticket price I better get more than three hours playing at "select" attractions and ice cream. Really? I expect a very fine dinner with some very fine waiters and everything to be open.

I remember this as well. Can't remember if I read about it from the actual poster or hearsay. Perhaps it was in that thread years ago about a parent putting no less than a dozen socks on her kid so he/she could meet the height requirement.

As to the party, you can actually do this for basically free and in the daylight too. It's called rope drop. All you need is an alarm clock and coffee. Anyways, if this comes as somewhat of a surprise to some (it certainly did for me when I first caught wind of it), credit it to Shanghai Disney's overruns for this "wonderful" event. It'll be interesting to see what other "surprises" were in for in the next few months. At least they're not cutting back the hours then charging for the admission during cut hours.

I just had a thought on another target customer for this...... the ones who have given upon Disney and are staying onsite at US for their next trip. They could squeeze a little dose of Disney into one night and not be paying this high price in addition to the price of a multi day ticket, onsite Disney dining and hotel.

Maybe Disney would like me to work up a marketing plan for this one?

This is exactly why its so appealing. My dd is going to Uni this summer but wanted one day at WDW because she just can't stay away. This event would be perfect for her, she can add another day to her Uni tickets for the morning and afternoon and travel over to MK at 7PM and stay till 2AM. If for 3 hours the crowds are much lower, that $30 extra is totally worth it.

This event isn't for the people who aleady have their WDW weeks planned and their tickets already. This event is for the people who are visiting the area but not going to WDW because their days are filled with other things like Uni, or SW, or legoland. Now they can still do that stuff and get a night at MK too.

Just listened to the latest podcast in the car. Really, if they offer this in August, we will do it. I loved E ticket nights back in 2000, 2001 time frame. They are some of my best memories. I'd gladly pay this price to relive that. Sure, the price has gone up, so have my wages since then . We don't get to Disney often, so when we do, I don't mind splurging to create special memories. Plus, I agree with the posts about the lure of less strollers! That alone may be priceless...

This, to me, proves that there is no actual "limit". If there really were a limit, it would be in Disney's best interest to broadcast what that limit is so that people can rush to get in on the action before the sell-out. There is no reason why the total number would be a closely guarded secret. To the contrary, you would want people to know that the commodity is limited.

Exactly. If the event truly is extremely limited in quantity, Disney would be shouting this out and putting it in large print on the website, not mentioning it as an afterthought. Instead, a major marketing point is "free" ice cream.

The limit is however many tickets Disney can sell. And if not enough people buy tickets, they'll discontinue the event, and maybe even cancel the scheduled dates.
