New Menus on the Magic

well, I sure hope those of you who were disappointed with the food, and the entertainment... Bumblequats??? what ever that is, SPOKE UP>>> NOthing is worse when there is a problem and folks don't speak up. How will they know there is a problem and HOPEFULLY fix it, if we don't speak up.

From what I've read, Bumblesquats is a new show on the Magic that they were trying out and I guess it's not be well received at all.........

Hi! Yes, we did leave our comments on the questionnaire. We wrote quite a bit about the entertainment and new food. Which we have never done before!

I think the Bumblesquats were for only 3 cruises and the other "replacement" show starts on the May 7th cruise. The Bumblesqauts was a mix of Cirque De Solei and "weird" Bumblesquats. The DH and DW Bumblesquats were looking for more relatives in the audience for a reunion. The actors would come down the aisle and "look" for relatives and then pick the "lucky" cruiser to be part of the skit. After, they did their humor it would break to the stage and the "Cirque" part would take over. There was no rhyme or reason to this show. The couple never talked -they mumbled the whole time until they yelled Bumblesquat - to acknowledge they found a relative. I know this sounds confusing - believe me I was confused and we were there :goodvibes !

Even though, we wrote alot on the comment sheet about the food and entertainment there were alot of CM's that made it a magical cruise. We wrote down all of their names and the dept.'s to make sure they get the recognition they deserve - :cool1:

It sounds like DCL needs to bring back Hercules asap! As for menu changes, on our New Year's Eve cruise this Jan. we also had different menus. My husband was shocked when the chocolate lava cake was not being offered! We found out early because I am gluten free so I always read over the next day's menu so I could preorder my dinner. Our wait team had chocolate lava cake made special for our entire table. DH said it was the best he has had in all of our DCL cruises because it was fresh. Lucky man, he had two since I couldn't have mine :). Kathy

We did complain...after the Head Server, Aleksandra, pulled it out of us...about the food. She was great. She realized we weren't happy with the menus and "forced" us to tell her why. (I'm a big people pleaser so I hate complaining about anything!)
And, we were not the only ones! We saw several people around us complaining too.

BTW, the Chocolate Lava Cake was back on one of the menus!

I was also on the 4/23 sailing, weather was great but I agree I DID NOT like the new menus. Our waiter Raman and Ann Marie were terrific. Ann Marie was crying on Friday night as were my girls. The best of menu (as our waiter described) is the best of all the Disney restaurants not the best of the cruise menu's. That was one of the best menu's on the ship. I never eat beef and the first 3 nights found myself eating beef!!! YUK!!
As for the show, Bumblesquats were awful but the Cirque De Solei portion was wonderful. I think as they set up for the next event they had to kill time but it was not in disney style. We went to a meet and greet with the Theatre people who said that it takes several weeks to get a new show ready between rehearsing on the ship, gettting sets ready etc. THey are excited the new show is a Cinderella story focusing on the mice!!
I almost booked for next April but it is the same ports, we need new ports.

What's up with "The Best Of..." on Friday night??? Does that mean leftovers? That's the same meal I cook on Friday nights! :guilty:

We were also on the 4/23 and felt the same way about the menus. The last three nights there were good choices but the first four nights were less than than spectacular....i found myself ordering the broiled salmon three of those first four nights because I could not find anything that interested me!
We also had Aleksandra as our head server and thought she was wonderful. Our server however left alot to be desired...he and our assistant server seemed to be arguing almost every night. We really like our asst server and felt the server was giving him a hard time every night. We always semmed to be the last ones to leave the 6 pm seating. Twice he brought my meal with mushrooms even though I had specifically told him i am allergic to them the first night!!!

I was on the 10-day and thought the food was fine. I know these were the new menus because we were told that they were. If anyone wants a scan of them just PM me. I have most the the menus. I actually liked them, and i am a picky eater too. I guess it's all personal preference.

They also told us on the 4/16 cruise that we were the first to try out 2 new menus. Our server - Ilvira, who has been with the Magic for 5yrs. - did not know anything about the menus. She told us, all she could do was recommend what the Chef had! :goodvibes She also told us that they were preparing for the 14 day cruise with these menus. Wasn't the 10 day cruise in December '04?

I am glad to hear the menus have changed even though I've only sailed with Disney once before. Who wants to see the same old things again and again? I'd rather move on and try new items.

We had Aleksandra as our table server on 10/16/04 and thought she was great as was her assist. server David. She had mentioned she might be promoted to Head server. Glad to hear it. She was well deserving. Our table was 6 adults and 7 children and she pulled off the week in fabulous fashion. 3 well deservered cheers for her!

We were told that we were also trying new menus for the 14 day. Maybe you had two that had to fill the holiday space. We had a special holiday dinner, so there is one slot that any cruise wouldn't have but the holiday ones. What other one was different?

In any case, i posted all of the menus at my gallery. Click on this link

and look under cruise stuff for all of you who want to see what exactly is on the menus. I only did the food, not the drinks. I can do them upon request. Just PM me if you want to see more.

thanks :)

since i have never been on a disney cruise before please excuse my ignorance but what is the problem with the new menus? food sounds delicious to me

can someone who cruised before tell me why you feel let down because of the new menus...i guess i want to know what i will be missing...if anything

TIA :flower:

Thanks Colonial Traveler!

The problems we had were for the first few nights with the new menus. They had too much seafood on the menus. Every other cruise, we had a hard time picking just 1 thing. This time, the first few nights, we had a hard time picking something at all, esp. the 1st night.

Like I mentioned, we don't really eat seafood, lamb, veal, duck.... so the first night we all had the basic sirlion.

The second night I had the prime rib, it was good.

3rd night I had the chipotle steak.

By the 4th night I was tired of steak/beef. So the 4th night the tempura chicken...which I hated but DH liked.

Pirate night I had the fruity pork which was great.

Captains Gala...I know they had a choice of lobster, Traditional turkey dinner and a chicken w/ artichokes (Which was really good) and another seafood dish. DF got lobster and the sirlion for his own surf & turf :)

The last night I had the tenderlion, which was really good! But again, I was tired of having beef every night. I wish they had some more chicken choices.

Stimpy,

Do you know if Prudence is going to be on the Magic out in California? She was our assistant server last year and our kids loved her. We're on the first cruise out of LA and I know they'll be looking for her.

I was on the 4/23 Magic cruise and loved the food. This was my first Disney cruise so I can't compare our food to the old menu, but our server was great at recommending things on the menu. The one night I didn't take his choice for the main entree, I found the food to be good but not great. It was Pirate night and I ordered the pork tenderloin. Well, without my asking, he brought over the entree he recommended (Grilled Shrimp and Scallops over pasta). It was yummy - stopped eating the pork and ate all of the seafood entree. Always took his advice after that. I also liked the Lobster and Porcini Mushroom dish from the first night. My husband said the Grilled Tenderloin with bernaise sauce on the last night was his favorite. We have previously cruised with Celebrity, which is known for having good food, and I found the food very similar in quality - perhaps the desserts were better on Celebrity, but not by much.
