I would ask your salesperson to pull some strings for your first stay to get you VGC, they can work their magic on your first trip as members since you bought direct. My DH and I just got back from our honeymoon and while we were there we joined DVC! We now own 50 points at Poly and are planning our first DVC trip for next year to the Grand Californian! It feels so good!

It could be true, but Disney retains ownership of 2 percent of the resort and also has villas in their inventory from members who trade out their points for DCL or ABD.I bought direct last month and had a DL trip booked for August already. When we asked about the Grand Cali, our salesperson said he couldn't do much due to the size and that everything has been booked for a while.
