Been away from the DISBoards for a while, but just wanted to drop in here and say hello! My wife Rachel and I bought into the Disney Vacation Club while on our honeymoon. Originally, we only planned on going for the $100 gift card (hey, more honeymoon money!) but when we were offered a 50 point contract at the Treehouse Villas, we couldn't turn it down. We ended up getting 60 points, with an April use year and points for 2011 included.

Of course, we just booked our very first DVC vacation ... five nights at Aulani for my wife's 29th birthday! We found some very cheap airfare, so we're taking two years of points and spending just about a week in paradise!

Looking forward to learning the ropes from fellow members, and of course, many more years of Disney memories!

Please let me know how you enjoy your smaller contract. We in the process of buying 50 points but I keep getting mixed reviews. The way I see it is that we can get plenty of great vacations every other year or even stay in a studio at WDW for 5 nights every year!

Thanks for the well-wishes everyone! They are very much appreciated!

Crazy: It's always whatever makes the most sense for your particular circumstances. Here's how I laid things our for our guide.

1. It was VERY important to us that we not take on any debt. We are virtually debt-free as newlyweds and want to stay that way.

2. We didn't want to exhaust our savings on a minimum point contract either (which was either 160 or 100 points, from what we were told).

3. We were not planning to have kids. My wife has fibromyalgia, and it likely wouldn't be safe for her to remain on her pain meds during a pregnancy, and she's practically unable to function without them. So we would likely not be staying in anything larger than a studio any time in the foreseeable future.

4. My job offers limited vacation time, and we likely wouldn't want to spend it all on Disney vacations every year. Every other year would be the most we would probably travel to a Disney resort.

5. We can be flexible with dates and short stays, however, so a few days here or there would be fine.

On that criteria, our guide told us a smaller point contract made more sense, and offered us the 50. We were very surprised to be offered so few points, but after reviewing point charts, we figured 60 would be better. For a family with kids, or someone who wants to travel more, it wouldn't necessarily make sense.

Thank you for your feedback. Although we do have kids our circumstances are similar. We are not willing to take out a loan to become DVC owners, and due our jobs our vacations are always taken for about 5 nights/6days anyhow...even we do travel to WDW. The way I see it is that 50 points would allow us to stay in a studio at OKW during our travel times once year for about 5 nights, or bank and do a longer stay every two years, with short stays at DL or Aulani as well. We may add later as our kids get older but for now it seems like this will be ideal for us.

Enjoy your new ownership! Hoping ours passes ROFR!
