new members very scared we made a mistake

Nope, not a mistake. I've booked 7 months out more than a few times and have always gotten something that I like, love or totally exceeds my expectations. You should be fine. Just have a couple of different dates, and have a couple of different places you'd like to be. Personally, we have our favoites, second favorites, and least favorites, but they are all awesome in their own ways.

I booked Easter week (like right now ) at Hilton Head at 7 months out in a 2 bedroom, Marsh view and not only did we get exactly what we asked for, but WOW! it totally exceeded my expectations. The location of the room is awesome, and the resort (been here before so I already knew), is beautiful, as is the entire island.

We've went for Animal Kingdom Villas at 7 months and did get a savannah view(this was before we added on points there), and a couple of times actually booked 3 months out and had gotten a one bedroom in OKW, which we really loved. SSR was available each time we booked 7 months or less as well, so you will have the option and should be able to get what you want.

All the resorts are just beautiful, and the key is to be in the World when you want to be here, so for us anyway, our first choice of places might not be available, but we've always "come home" when we wanted to and that's one reason why we will never regret this purchase.

For early December one year, we had to make it at our home resort at exactly 11 months out. We've had no problems however, staying at other times of the year at Old Key West, the Boardwalk, etc.

It is 7 months (or 11 months) from the check IN date. It used to be from the check out date, but that policy was changed. I don't remember exactly when it changed, but it was in the past year or so.
