New Member Reservation Question

After receiving my member number I have been exploring www.mydvc.com and I'm confused on the “request a reservation” section. Does that mean if I put in my information about dates, etc. and if it’s available, I am committed to this reservation? I thought you could only call member services to use your points. TIA for any information

The section of the web site you're refering to will create an email to member services requesting the booking. It's not like the WDW web site where you get instant feedback that your vacation has actually been booked. It sometimes takes several days to get a response back (depending on how busy MS is). And yes, it will commit your points. It's the same as calling.
