NEW member looking for info on renting a week in WDW

I'm interested in finding out more info about renting someones timeshare for a week this year. I have no clue what these "points" are. I assume I can save money by booking one rather than at the hotel. Does that seem accurate? How does this work? Thanks for the feedback!

Renting DVC is best done at least 7 months out, and better done 11 months out. If you are looking for this fall, you are already looking at limited availability of units. Because DVC is a points timeshare, not dedicated weeks, availability can go quickly when booking starts 11 months out.
