New member getting things straight!

I've been going to Disney since I was 3 and now that I'm finally in DVC my mind feels like it might explode (with excitement...and a little confusion)!

I have 160 points at AKV that I'll be receiving in Dec. plus 72 that I have banked (from 2012 points), so 232 points to use. We typically go in Oct., so I'll want to book our trip in Nov. Since I'll only be able to borrow 160 at that point (we need 330+ for our trip next year), does it seem plausible to wait a few weeks and book when I receive my points in Dec. and book a 2br Savannah View or is it imperative I book at the 11 month mark for this? I guess I won't have a choice either way...and I hope this made some kind of sense.

When you receive your points has nothing to do with when you can book. You can call in November 2013 to book an October 2014 trip...using Banked December 2012 points, then the December 2013 points (which would be the use year for Oct 2014 usage) and borrowed December 2014 points. The borrowing window goes by the travel date for the reservation, not the date it is booked.

October of 2014 will be in your 2013 use year (December 2013 use year runs through November 30, 2014).

In that case, it appears you will have 232 points as you've said and will need to borrow 98+ (based on our need of 330+).

You can do this right at the 11 month window. Points are loaded multiple years in advance so you will be able to brorrow 2014 points into the 2013 use year for your trip when you call in November. You don't have to wait until you're actually in your use year.

Let me see if I have your question straight. If you have 160 banked 2012 Dec. use year points, they will only be available to use for trips from Dec. 1/2013 through 11/30/2014. You don't really say how many points are in your contract, but the assumption is that it is more than 160.

First of all WHEN you book has nothing to do with your use year. You will be able to use the points for the appropriate use year at your 11 month booking window. So if you have all of your 160 points from 2 years available to use in 2013 (assuming that is what your contract is for), you would be able to use the banked 2012 and all of your 2013 points for that reservation. In addition, you will be allowed t o borrow up to your total number of contract points from your 2014 use year at the time you book as well. There is no point in waiting beyond your booking window, as it doesn't get you any more or less points. What is available for that trip is available at the 11 month booking window either way.

Yes, my Mom and I take our annual trip in Oct! I think that's where I was getting confused...I assumed I had to wait until my UY month to borrow from the next year. Thanks!!

We're going in October of 2014 and bringing my mother-in-law with us also. Our home is BWV or BLT (BWV is much better for food and wine), but my mom LOVES nature and Animal Kingdom so we're hoping for some 7-month luck to get in at AKV. We'll book BLT at 11 months just to be safe, but hope to move to AKV.

Oh one other quick question, when it's your 11 month mark, what is the earliest you can call/go online to book? I know people have mentioned it a bunch of times on here...I couldn't seem to find it.

Haha, I'll try not to! This will be our first trip with my Dad coming (he hasn't been in about 18+ years) and my best friend...so we'll be getting a 2br for sure. I love it there so much and excited to own a piece!
