Hi all,

I recently closed on my first contract, set up my profile, and got my points in my account(WOO-HOO!). While I was on the phone with MA they told me to sign up for the welcome home phone orientation. I'm signed up for a call later this week. What should I expect? They said the call lasts about 30 Minutes. Is that 30 minutes of them talking and me listening? Am I only allowed 30 minutes if I have questions?

A lot of it was information that we already knew. I think ours took about 30 minutes. They will do most of the talking initially, going over things like when your banking date is for your use year, what happens if you borrow points into another year, and then cancel a trip, how holdings work if something happens. You can ask questions at any point, but like I said...a lot of it we already knew just from being on these boards.

Wow, I've never heard of this. They did not have this when we first bought back in 2001.

I should have specified that I bought resale, in case that makes any difference regarding my earlier question.

If you had a good guide you should already know most of the info, but sometimes you think of things later, or realize you have a specific circumstance they didn't mention. RCI, holding points, stuff that doesn't always come up.

Agree with this...the RCI stuff was something we didn't do a ton of initial research on because it wasn't why we were buying. However, there are perks to owning and having access to RCI (I wouldn't use my points there), but they regularly are running deals for $300-$500 for entire weeks cash. My buddy who has been a member for 15 years, didn't know about this stuff either until I told him, and he since has booked a trip to Austin, Texas using their last minute getaways deals for dirt cheap.

I've been trying to find this info, and cannot seem to figure it out. How do you find these last minute weeks on RCI's website?

1. Log into your DVC account
2. Under Plan a Vacation select Hot To Book RCI
3. Where it says Rooms from 80 points...there is a button underneath that says Book RCI Online...click that
4. Redirecting to RCI page should pop up...member number should already be in bottom left corner...click continue
5. Click I accept terms and conditions and click OK on RCI page
6. Scroll over RCI Vacation Search (should be top middle of page)...4 options will drop down (RCI Vacation Search, Extra Vacation Getaways, Last Call Vacations, and Resort Directory). You can click either Extra Vacation Getaways or Last Call Vacations to get the cash rate deals they are offering

It's hard to explain how to search for a specific place...I personally type places i'm interested in where it says enter keyword...you can also click on regions of the map and see what comes up. On the left side you can search by other filters (month you want to travel and things like that)...It is a little complicated, I will check with him, but I believe he used the RCI portal to see what was available, and then called member services to book through them.

Thanks! It still didn't work so I chatted with a rep. I guess my membership number has not been added into the RCI system yet. Hopefully I can look at this by next week

Did you just buy direct correct? If so you can't access RCI until you officially close which is about 30 days after you dated your contract. Until the closing date you actually don't have full rights of a DVC member yet (no access to RCI and can't do point transfers).
