Does DVC hold back rooms for new buyers? We're looking to buy and stay at BLT at a time when there are no rooms available, but have heard that they hold back rooms for new buyers. Any experience with this?

No, but sometimes the guide can get something released from the developer inventory. And sometimes all they can get is something at another resort, like SSR or OKW.

When we bought at BLT in June, our guide was able to get us a split stay for early December (AKV Savannah view and BLT Lake view room). We had asked for the split stay, but were hoping for BLT MK view as the second part of the stay.

From what we've read on the boards, it sounds like BLT was fully booked for DVC. Guessing our guide did exactly as Deb & Bill described and our reservation is part of the developer points from both BLT and AKV since they are still selling at both resorts.

I do not know if they hold back rooms but when you buy they try very hard to "make the magic happen" as they put it and get you your request! We got our with no trouble after we bought but we booked our place immediately.

I have read posts here of new buyers asking for reservations and seeming to get something close to what they want, at least at the resort they want, when others have posted they are on wait lists.

So, it certainly is something to discuss with your guide if you are contemplating purchasing and need to be able to secure a reservation in order to do that.

Good luck!!!

Agreed. Since the DVD owns at least 2 percent of each resort, they probably have a room inventory. However, I would expect that they turn the rooms over to CRO at some point, so there is no guarantee of a DVD room.

We bought BLT in April and our Guide was able to get us in a MK view Studio for the first week in December. I'm not sure how much was salesmanship, but she made it sound like she had to pull some strings to make it work.

Disney still owns a lot of BLT (and AKV) and has the ability to give you inventory that it has for its own use so usually you can get the "magical" ressie as a new purchaser that no one else can get. Moreover if you want to increase your chances of getting it you should inform your sales rep up front what you want before purchasing. And if you really want to increase your chances, take a negotiating risk and tell the rep you likely won't purchase right now if you cannot get that ressie.
