I just closed on what I think might be my achievable goal, dream contract!

PVB, December Use Year, Fixed Week 49 in Standard View Studio!

I had previously owned at VGF, and had to sell for various reasons. I wasn't sad to see it go. After doing lots and lots and lots of reading here and at other sites, and weighing direct vs resale, I landed on this contract.

I know the arguments for resale. I understand the arguments for resale. I chose to buy direct so I could get exactly what I wanted. To all you other direct buyers out there, don't let the "resale, resale, resale" drumbeat get you down if its not right for you!

So how does buying the week work if they later adjust the number of points required for that week?

I assume you buy a number of points equal to that week now. Let's say it is 150. What if it gets adjusted to be 155 or 145 down the road?

The week is 118 points. I bought 130.

At 12 months, the week is automatically booked, using all 130 points. If I opt out of the week, I can use the 130 points as general use points. If I plan ahead well enough, I could opt out of the week and try to book it at 11 months, which would leave me with 12 points to bank or use.

If points are redistributed, I still get my fixed week. But if the week should go over 130 points, obviously opting out and then booking at 11 months won't work.

Week 49 is the first week of December, give or take a few days. DVC fixed weeks start on Sunday.

While this definitely sounds like a great way to go if you want that particular week, I'm stumped on part where it books 12 months out. Does that mean that, theoretically, all units could be gone for certain weeks even right at 11 months if people didn't buy a fixed week at that home resort?

No, they can only sell 35% of the rooms for that week as a fixed week. While fixed weeks can't cause a sell out, they can theoretically impact "walking" a reaervation at 11 months.

Congratulations!!! We own a fixed week at VGF and are big fans of the idea.

I don't think that you would have ever found what you wanted in the resale market. This is a great example of how direct would fit someone's needs better than resale. Enjoy!!

After studying hard here and elsewhere, I bought a 250+ BCV resale contract last year for $84/point. Man, in retrospect, that was a great deal.

Then Poly opened. For all her flaws in design and what they could have done, it's a great resort. But. After spending $21K on BCV, no way was I going to hit the missus up for a Poly contract...

Until she asked me what I knew about PVB. She asked. I gave her a 10 minute rundown that was better than any guide could give (because unlike guides who apparently are coached not to mention fixed weeks, I had read enough to know what a great deal they can be).

DW says to look into a Poly fixed week and let her know what I find out.

Now. In addition to the BCV contract, we have a fixed week 44 Lake View contract. That's first week of Nov and includes Halloween at times, MNSSHP at times, MVMCP at times, F&W, F&W half marathon weekend, and part of Jersey Week. A very busy week to lock in.

We would rather buy resale. That's where my experience was. But. The perfect PVB contract was a direct contract.

It is the same price/pt as when I bought direct. If you want something specific like that, you would almost have to go direct. I doubt resale on PVB would even be THAT much cheaper. There is definitely a time and a place for Direct/Resale.

Just out of curiosity, why did you not like the VGF contract? Did you not like the resort? Being that VGF and PVB are in the same ballpark as far as cost, location, I am curious why PVB will be better for you.

No. All points are the same price. But a fixed week requires 10% more points than a regular booking. So, essentially, a fixed week is more expensive.

Another reason I like buying direct... Today I used 204 points to book 3 nights at Hong Kong Disneyland! 3 adults at the Disneyland Hotel in a sea view room with balcony... Sweet! I think exchanges to DLHK are a pretty darn good value. They include park tickets for every guest in the room for the length of stay. And it will be the 4th Magic Kingdom I get to see, so super excited!

The main issue I had with the VGF contract I owned... Not having a fixed week! The reason I picked week 49 is 99% of the time, that's when I want to vacation. I've already planned trips for that week for 2015 (Universal Orlando and a Disney Cruise) and 2016 (Podcast Cruise 6.0). As anyone who's tried to book that week knows, getting a studio at VGF can be VERY challenging. Even at 11 months!

This might sound silly, but I really like the proximity to the TTC at the Poly. I tend to walk everywhere I can at WDW. Being able to walk to the Epcot monorail is something I like.

Finally, the decision to buy at VGF was my ex's, so that hotel kinda has a negative connotation in my mind.
