Hey everyone- just wondered if anyone has been through Orlando International airport since changes to procedure. I've heard they've removed the need to re-claim baggage and maybe re-shuffled security stuff? Anyone experienced this yet?

We went Mar 22nd when we arrived I had heard we could keep luggage and not do 2nd collection. I did not intend to do this and continue as in the past as I have never had a problem with 2nd collection, always arrived around the same time as me but whne we got there last month I saw they has intalled a new escalator at side of bag drop so decided to try it, it worked great, escalator takes you right upto the train. Unless I had loads of luggage I would not use 2nd collection.
For arriving back at MCO after your holiday they have now moved to other side, A, had no problems there but security lines were ridiculous on 5th April. at least 50-70 people in every line, it was chaos, took about 30 mins to get thru.

That bad, huh? Do you think that is going to be a permanent thing/usually like that at the other terminal (as opposed to virtual walk straight through lines when they were in the old terminal), or just a hiccup from where they have switched to the other terminal?

we went on feb 4th and only picked our bags up once and it was great, so fast we were 1st to car hire, it helped that we were 4th off plane and got through immagration so fast as well

Its the same security lines If you check in A or B. Its only the other side of airport but you use the same gates fro departure. I don't know why it was so chaotic, I asked the security officer, she said it was like that often when they get a build up, it comes and goes. They try to split you into 3 catagories now, can't remember exact desciption but its something like Expert flyer, regular flyer and novice but everyone just piled in anywhere as you could not see the signs until you were in there.

I think it is an excellent idea being able to keep your luggage after the first pick up. I had thought it was going for another scan when we first went in 1996 but now realise it is just to 'make things easier'.

However, last year we landed in a thunderstorm, got through security, left bag at the second drop off, when through to pick luggage up again and get the car, only for the airport to be shut with the storm. We had to wait quite a while, well over an hour for the luggage to start on the carousel, then another while for it to turn up. This created an awful lot of congestion around the pick up zones.

Just wondering which side the virgin rep and the virgin holidays Dollar desk will be on. I am asuming its the A side if virgin have moved there?

Thanks for the info. :thumbsup2 We might give this a try when we fly into MCO in May, although we've never had any problems with the 2nd luggage pick-up point. :)

Where exactly is it Wayne? We thought it would've been there in Jan when we last went through, but couldn't see anything.

Like you we've not really had too much of an issue with 2nd collection, but should speed things up a little.

When you have gone thru customs and handed in your blue form, thru the doors you have 2 belts infront of you to do 2nd bag drop. The escalator is there to the right, 99% of people used it so you can't miss it. We only saw one family use the belts. Maybe they had not opened it in Jan?

Cheers Wayne, Deb thought that it was in operation before Jan, but there was no sign of it when we went through - unless it was not in operation that day for some reason.

Oh well, we'll keep our eyes out in November.

Thanks a lot

Yes, I kept telling Matt we would be able to take our bags with us and that there would be an escalator straight up to the tram, but no evidence of it at all when we were there in January. I can only think it was decommissioned for some reason on that day. Could they have screened it off, or did we just completely miss it? :confused3
