Need a new one. Looking for recommendations. I have a memory foam topper right now and thinking a full mattress of that would be too hot as I, well, age.....;) But if others tell me that doesn't happen I will consider it.

I hear people talk about how comfortable the Heavenly beds at Westins are. Have not stayed there to know, but if others love them universally, I will keep that as a possibility as well. If anyplace has them on display, that would help a lot.

I tested a sleep number and it seemed comfortable as well, but are more expensive than a traditional set. Worth it?

I know Costco sells sets also. I see them stacked upright against a wall. Not exactly a good way to test a mattress.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm also looking for a new mattress and would like to see some replies. I have also heard that the foam mattress is hot.

Ohhhh, you are sooooo right, the Heavenly beds and pillows at the WESTIN Hotels are AMAZING!!! DH & I stay at Westins quite often. I actually bought their bed pillows, a little costly but sooooo heavenly. :thumbsup2

We have a STEARNS & FOSTER mattress set! Love it!

Do you like your Sterns & Foster better than the Heavenly bed? Maybe they make the sets for Westin. I can't imagine a hotel company going into the manufacturing business.

Check out this link ... the prices for the Heavenly Bed $$$$$$$$!!!!

Stearns & Foster is no where that costly. AND yes, we love it!!! :goodvibes

We, too, have a Stearns & Foster mattress set on our guest bed. We initially purchased it for our room, but soon after switched furniture in the master. The hardly used Stearns & Foster went to the guest bedroom.

Everyone who spends time in our guest room has commented on how great they found mattress to be. This includes my father who is a rather large man with back and knee issues. ;)

I also have Stearns and Foster and am very, very happy with it.

I did not get a pillowtop or anything because I don't like the way they "wear" after awhile.

Crazy timing. Mattresses are covered in the issue of Consumer Reports that came today. But no Heavenly Bed mentioned.

We have the Tempur-Pedic Allura bed and it is incredible. Best thing I have ever slept on and DH loves it also.
The pain relief with this mattress set is just extraordinary!
Two thumbs up!

We have a Heavenly Bed and it is wonderful!~

We had a Sleep # bed before that and 2 other beds before that.

We too are looking to replace our mattress but don't know where to start. I have another question. Is it really necessary to purchase a new box spring?

CR rated the TempurPedic as the most popular among users. They can't do their usual quantitative rankings because of personal preferences among individuals. I am just thinking it would too hot.

We need a new mattress desperately. I was thinking about the Tempur-Pedic but never considered it being too hot. Hmmm....that's something to think about, as I, also, age...:rolleyes1

My aunt and uncle have a sleep number bed and really like it, but I've read about people having problems with the motor breaking. I'm not sure if I want to spend all the money and then need to replace a motor.

We just bought a new mattress this year... we tried a ton in the store, but it is so hard to know how you will like it down the road. We bought a Simmons Beautyrest Kimball Plush (King size... love the bigger size!) and we paid about $1400 for it (including boxspring, frame, and super ninja mattress protector/pad thing that the salesman sold DH on). It is a pillow top mattress and we LOVE it. The kids call it Bed-zilla! When DH was traveling for business I fit myself, both boys, 2 dogs and a cat in it comfortably.

I will never buy another mattress that doesn't come from Original Mattress Factory. Prices are amazing, and they are one of the few companies that still makes mattresses that can flip, extending their life. They make them, so you can customize (we added supports along the outside to make it better for sitting on the edge of the bed at no additional cost). Quality is similar to Stearns & Foster prior to them starting to make the one sided mattresses. I bet we paid half of what we saw anywhere else. When we buy our childrens' mattresses and replace the guest room bed, we're getting them from there! Best mattress I've ever had.

The Tempur is never hot. We live in Louisiana and its cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Very nice. ;):)

We have a memory foam mattress and I like it, though it has taken some getting used to for me since this is the first memory foam we've ever had. It is very comfortable for sleeping on your back or side, but for someone like me who sleeps on their stomach, it can be tricky finding a comfortable way to do that. But, we've had it now for about 3.5 months and I've gotten used to the different "feel" of a foam mattress (and sleeping on my back/side more... difficult as a life-long stomach sleeper... :upsidedow )

But when you lay on it, it feels like laying on a cloud. And for me, having Lupus, it feels great on my joints not to have the added "pressure points" of a traditional spring mattress. :thumbsup2

As far as it being hot, I don't find it to create any additional heat. I'm prone to night sweats (again, due to Lupus), so maybe it's hard for me to tell. But I don't think it's any hotter than any other mattress.

We spent a loooooong time in the store agonizing over which mattress to buy, but once we tried this one out we were sold on it, after getting over the initial feeling of "this feels weird".

Good luck on your search!:flower3:

I sleep in hotel rooms all over the world for work. I have slept on a Sleep Number (I HATE it... feels like a beach ball to me... I always wake up in pain. But, FWIW, I am a 60 ;)), I have slept on a Tempur Pedic (also HATE it... I wake up every 3 hours stiff as a board. It's far too hard for me.)

The best mattress I have ever slept on is my own... the Sealy Posturepedic Barryton mattress. It's a regular mattress but with a memory foam topper. It is cool in the summer, and toasty warm in the winter. :cloud9: Can't wait to climb in tonight!!!

The second most comfortable mattress was at a hotel, I even stripped the bed to see what mattress it was. It was a Serta Perfect Sleeper. :thumbsup2

I tested a lot yesterday. My favorites thus far are a top of the middle tier of Simmons Beauty Rest, (and oddly the lowest Beauty rest as well) A Stearns & Foster Plush, and a KingsDown.

It costs as much as a new kitchen appliance but I can't get real data. I'm a researcher. It terrifies me to buy based on 10 minutes of laying on a mattress in the store.;)

PS: Will not wear a skirt next time to the mattress store.
