New Main Street Ice Cream Shop

Boy I sure did miss the Ice Cream Shop on Main Street during my last visit. Fortunately, WDWMagic has a report on the newly renovated site that has been closed for some time. The good news is that the new shop could open any day now. The following is an account of the new facility during a recent CM preview.

"Today we had a CM preview of the new main street ice cream parlour! It is beautiful. The queue setup is now accessible to wheelchairs and you order at the end of the queue instead of the counter. You then go to the new counter which is very nice <marble> and see them prepare the food in the back. Behind that area there is a really nice cabinet set up with stained glass. There is also very nice moulding around the walls, very ornate and nice. There is no longer a way to cut from the bake shop to the ice cream parlour, however there is a large picture window between the two. This is DEFINITELY a step up from what the ice cream parlour used to be. It is very nice to see money being poured into a rehab.. and it shows. The menu is almost the same with a few new choices for ice cream. They also have coke floats and also sundaes that are served in waffle bowls that are made right there. You can small the waffles being made.. Its very cool.. The ice cream parlour should open up tomorrow afternoon. The bake shop is still behind schedule. It looks like it should open the first week in August."

It opened to guests on Wed July 25. They re-tiled it (very pretty) and the registers were moved out to the middle of the room away from the serving counter. The Bake Shop and Crystal Arts will reopen soon. Bake Shop will have more space for guests, and the Crystal shop will be a bit smaller for it. For those of you in the "there's too many shops, the sky is falling!" car pool (j/k, I think the notion of "carpools" is pretty repulsive) this will be a welcomed change.

Safari Steve, I will be down at the world from August 12-20. Do you think the Bake Shop and Crystal Shop will be open by the time I get there?

Should be open by then, they're working on it around the clock right now. I can't make any promises, though.

Thanks for the update Steve. I plan on hitting the new shop on my trip down for DIS-Con this November/December. I hope to see some of you there.
