Does any one know if Disney will eventually offer those magic bands as an option when staying on property?

I doubt it, they will have to keep updating the MDE Website and app too often. and, they make money out of people buying them!

Definitely a money maker for sure. I guess I'm just hoping they will at some point replace the old ones....highly unlikely though I guess

They encourage you to buy these and ditch the others then for a year you can say you don't want a new magic band. You can purchase some online now and link to you MDE.

I think it would be a great idea to be able to get the themed ones for a resort stay and maybe be able to pay say $5 less for them if done this way.
It saves disney sending out ones that people are going to throw away after they buy new ones in the parks (sustainable living, reduce costs and waste and all that jazz) and then people will get what they want.
Also, where the heck are the purple bands?!?!?!

I don't think anyone can say they know but I think at some point, yes. We are still pretty early in the MyMagic+ lifecycle so they are probably keeping it simple at the moment by just having the solid color bands. At some future iteration of the MDE website I would guess they will add the ability to choose more of the magic bands that are currently park only for a fee of course. I do think some will be held back for in park purchase only to keep a collectible factor with them but yes, I would think you'll have more options in the future.

I also foresee a point where what you are offered will vary based on the time of year you travel. Going to be there for one of the race weekends? Offer a special magic band for the stay. Going to be there during Flower and Garden? Offer a special band for the stay.

All just a guess at the moment.
