New King of Pop

Ugh! He makes me so sick I can't stand him.
There was only one Michael Jackson and there will never be another one.
And even if anyone ever came close to him it sure wouldn't be Kayne West.
He really needs to get over himself the ego act isn't cute. It's annoying.

I guess no one bothered to read the EDIT at the end of the article? It was written in satire in "The Onion" style.

"EDIT: Idolator has debunked this story and it appears it's the work of a The Onion-esque site that a few news outlet took seriously. Which I don't blame them considering this was the most believable thing I've ever heard in my life."

In other words, THE STORY IS NOT TRUE. That's for those not reading the thread & just posting. lol

Why do so many people have such a hard time understanding & noticing satire especially on the internet. I've come across so many people who read The Onion and think the stories are true. :confused3

It's one thing to point it out and I'm sure we would have thanked you for that. but REALLY is it necessary to carry on like that? BTW - Could you make that font a little bigger, I couldnt make it out.:rotfl:

Wow, so many of you have never heard a Kanye West song? He is a rapper, but he has been singing (quite well) lately also.

He has had a TON of hits in his career (past 5-6 years). I enjoy him because he is very different than most rappers these days (that are pure garbage).

One of his first singles was "Jesus Walks" which is a very good song and very different than we hear out of most of the rappers these day.

I am shocked people here haven't heard any of his songs. I remember him when I was in high school, he was just coming out then. I recently graduated from college and he is still extrememly well known, and on the radio often around here.

I wouldn't call his older stuff pop, but I think his new cd (808 and Heartbreak) takes on more of a pop influence. I sort of liked the rap more. Two of his most popular songs from that album are "Heartless" and "Love Lockdown".

He has a terrible ego, he knows this and I believe he has used it to form who he is now. I thought he was maturing a bit, guess not. I wouldn't consider myself a fan of his, but I do like his music.

Haha- just read it was in the onion. To be honest- I might have expected Kanye to say something like that but to me it seems like he has lost his ego around the time his mother passed away.

I can understand not liking his music, but I'm suprised by the number of people who say they don't know who he is.

I hate most pop music, but I still know who Timberlake, Spears, Pink... are.

Part of the rap industry is having an ego, or at least portraying it in your music.

Listening to the end of his first album though, sounds a lot different, the last part is all about how he got discovered by Jay-Z and seems very humble during that.

Coke is the King of Pop. Dr. Pepper is the surgeon general of pop. There are other members in the cabinet.;)

Kayne is a good rapper but he can't sing to save his life. And he doesn't know anyone else exists because he can't step away from the mirror :rotfl: I'd have to say Chris Brown (although with the Rihanna thing mabe not anymore) would be the closest thing to this generations Michael. Although, Michael will always be the real king of pop no matter the generation.

But Kanye is not really pop.

The bigger problem is the segmentation of music today, esp by radio programmers. It used to be that every area had a Top 40 radio station that played whatever was on the Top 40, whether it was so-called 'pop' music or rock or country or the Singing Nun. And the radio was how you heard new music, different music.

Now, radio programmers have decided that breaking down the music into little segments is the way to go. I just got a new car which came with satellite radio. There is ONE station out of 100+ that plays a mix of music (and that's very limited) -- everything else is tiny little pockets of a certain type or era of music. Moreover, radio programmers even limit what they play within those little segments -- an AC station does not play even the gamut of AC songs on the charts and the Top 40 station today plays about 10% of what's actually on the Top 40 at the moment (and plays those over and over and over again). We hear fewer and fewer songs by fewer and fewer artists on the radio.

Unless you seek out different music on other segmented stations or via the web through searching it out (and using up a LOT of time to do so), you will not hear it on the radio.

I have never heard any of his songs until I clicked on one of the links in another pp. I don't like rap music, so I didn't listen very long.
You can't decided you are the kind of pop, I think it's decided for you. I doubt a rapper is going to get a 'pop' title anyway.

:lmao: I missed that. Good job, Onion!

Never heard of him, but IMO he should be titled the King of Insensitivity, or Poor judgment. Imagine that jerk approaching a family who is in mourning about something like that. :confused3:mad::sad2: No doubt he will lose popularity after this.

He's the one who said "George Bush doesn't care about black people." The look on Mike Meyers' face cracks me up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsY-pMtmJHg

So you didn't read the rest of the thread, did you?

It was a SATIRE article. I tried pointing that out in post #22, but I guess people missed it somehow.

I've PMd the OP asking them to edit their original post since so many people are missing that fact & getting all upset over something that isn't even true.

I didn't read the article, just what the OP stated. I'm a big Onion fan, though.
