Our first day in the park is always something to look forward to. This time we were going to wing it for lunch, and head to our reservations at Chefs De France for dinner. I was excited about Chefs because I had enjoyed an AMAZING Ahi Tuna dinner there last year. We headed to Cantina San Angel in Mexico first, to try some Counter Service Mexican.
DF and I both had the
same thing!
Plato Combinacion - Chicken taco, Beef burrito and a Quesadilla served with Black refried beans and Mexican salsa.
DF had a Sprite, I had a Pink Lemonade. Both of us chose a Churro for our dessert.
What can I say? Delicious. The Quesadilla was the best of the plate by far. Though it doesn't look like a typical Quesadilla, it's the pastry-looking item sitting on top. It was crunchy and delicious. The beef taco was packed full with stuff and the chicken taco was nice and refreshing with tomatos and lettuce. The black beans were smooth and just a little spicy. All the food came out hot and tasty. The only problem was...there was too much! The plate was so large that neither of us could finish! Besides, we had to save room for the Churro. Crispy, caked with cinnamon, and toasty warm. Overall, and excellent start to our day.
With the last little bit of sun fading away behind the rain clouds, I was looking for a drink and a night sit-n-smoke. As per tradition, I took DF over the the UK. We stepped up to the bar and ordered a Welsh Dragon, my fave bev in Epcot.
This tasty treat is a combination of orange juice, mint schnaps, melon liquor and other stuff. lol. The best way to enjoy this drink is sitting on a bench, in the back garden, listening to
The British Invasion.
Unfortunately, our day at Epcot ended up being a soaking wet one. By the time we got to Chefs De France that night, we were drenched and looking forward to a nice hot meal. What we weren't expecting was a nice, hot....waiter! Yzza was a very attentive and efficient guy. Since the
DDP has axed the appetizer section of the meal, DF and I decided to go for it and order soups anyway. That turned out to be a very, very good idea.
ME:
Bisque de homard - Lobster bisque
Thon poelle aux olives et pommes allumettes - Seared tuna (rare) sliced and served with olives and caper sauce, fresh greens and shoestring fries.
Creme Brulee - Vanilla creme brulee served with a madeliene.
Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! This soup was
so smooth. It was the perfect way to cheer up a dreary, wet day. The flavors of the soup blended so well together. It was a truly beautiful soup.
Welcome to my biggest disappointment. I had asked for green beans instead of the fries, but the entire dish came with beans and salad (which i didn't ask for). Where was my olives and capers? Where was my cute little crepe bowl of greens? Overlooking this, I dug into the tuna expecting the best. I got the worst. The tuna had not been seared long enough, or evenly on both sides. The center of the cuts (which were WAY too thick) was
freezing cold. I love seared tuna, it's one of my favorite things in the world....i was bummed. I ended up sending it back and getting what DF ordered which, as you will read, was awesome.
Oh beautiful Creme Brulee. How do I love thee? I definately loved this one. Again, smooth and creamy. Beautiful golden brown crust, semi sweet vanilla taste. The Madeleine cookie was soft, spongey, and lemony. Truly a great dessert.
DF:
Soupe a l'oignon gratinee - The classic onion soup topped with Gruyere cheese.
Filet de boeuf grille, sauce au poivre noir Gratin Dauphinois et haricots verts - Grilled tenderloin of beef with black pepper sauce, original potato gratin of Savoy and green beans.
Creme Brulee - Vanilla creme brulee served with a madeliene.
DF loved her soup too. The cheese was the perfect combination of melty and bubbly. Her only complaint, and it was a minor one, was that there wasn't enough actual onion.
The tenderloin was astounding. DF ordered it first, but when my Tuna went wrong, I copied her. This was delicious. It's been a long time since I ordered a steak in a restaurant. I think I'd do it more often if it were like this. DF ordered Medium, I ordered Medium Rare. Both steaks were cooked perfectly. The Au Gratin potatos were creamy, soft, and delicious. The beans, crunchy and fresh. I don't think I could order anything different from Chefs again. Tenderloin all the way! I think i may even become a meat eater afterall.
Our first full day was an overall success. Next up: Toy Story Pizza Planet & Narcoossee's at the Grand Floridian.
