Our last day in the parks! I couldn't have been more bummed. We started the day off at Animal Kingdom. It was a beautiful sunny day and we both got a little sunburned, which i'm sure didn't help DF feel any better. After the Flight of Wonder show (fave!) we headed to the new-ish Yak and Yeti Local Food Cafe. I had heard good things about the actually restaurant so i figured this was a good choice, especially since AK's counter service selection is pretty limited.
I refuse to eat McDonald's most of the time, let alone on vacation.
The first problem we ran into was the line up. It was a little ridiculous. We all know Disney has this way that they have 2 lines for every cashier. Usually this works pretty well and keeps the line moving.....here, it did not. At all. We waited, in the sun, for 45 minutes. See what i'll go through not to eat pizza or McDonald's??! Anyway, DF and i wanted the same thing again...so i ended up going with something different. Just for you people! So i hope you appreciate it, cause it was terrible! lol.
ME:
First attempt:
Kung Pao Beef - Kung pao beef over sticky rice.
Second attempt:
Shrimp Lo Mein - Lo mein noodles with shrimp.
Frozen Lemonade - Dessert.
Fruit Punch
(Left: Kung Pao Beef) This was the
grossest, nastiest thing i've ever eaten in WDW. Slimey, fatty beef, onions and peppers. The sauce was alright. If it wasn't for the terrible quality of the beef (worse than taco bell!) it could've been an ok dish. I obviously took this back. The manager on duty appologized and offered me a replacement, i chose the Shrimp Lo Mein. How could noodles go wrong? Read on, you'll see....
(Right: Shrimp Lo Mein) Again, nasty. Overcooked (or over heat-lamped) noodles smothered in soy sauce with some cocktail shrimp tossed on top. Bad, so very bad. The frozen lemonade was great and refreshing. The fruit punch was also a nice change from the typical soda line up. I will not go back.
DF:
Crispy Honey Chicken - Crispy honey chicken over sticky rice.
Frozen Lemonade - Dessert.
Fruit Punch
DF's lunch wasn't as terrible as mine, but it defintely wasn't great. The "Honey Chicken" was pretty much chicken nuggets (looked
a lot like they could've been from McDonald's) with honey drizzled on top. Don't get me wrong, i finished off her chicken in lew of my other 2 attempts at having something not disgusting for lunch. lol.
After a dismal lunch i was absolutely looking forward to one of my fave spots for dinner, San Angel Inn Restaurante in Mexico, EPCOT. We left AK still hungry and headed to EP. Longest bus ride ever! lol. The buses seemed to be a little off this year. I think i already mentioned that....anyway. Big disappointment: We missed Soarin. I just won't wait in line for 155 minutes. Can't, shan't.
We walked into Mexico and were immediately seated. The only thing about eating at Mexico with only 2, you usually get shoved in corner, or against a wall. The view is a bit lacking from 2 top tables. We chowed down on our nachos and salsa right away. Once again, DF and i ended up ordering the same thing. What can i say? Great minds think alike!
Sopa Azteca - Traditional tortilla soup with avocado, cheese and pasilla pepper.
Carne Asada Tampiquena - Grilled beef tenderloin served with a chicken enchilada topped with ranchera sauce, esquites and black refried beans.
Vanilla Ice Cream - topped with Mexican milk caramel.
Soooo good. This is why i come to Mexico year after year. This soup is delish. DF ordered it purely because of my cravings since we checked in to OKW.
Once again, a beautifully cooked steak. I have never eaten as much red meat is Dis as i did this year. They just do it so well. I'm also a sucker for Enchiladas. This is the real reason i tried this dish. MMM, corn tortillas.
Way too full to think about dessert, DF and i both settled on vanilla ice cream.
We left Mexico completely full, and completely satisfied. We just had one more place to go before we headed home for the night. The Rose N Crown for one last Welsh Dragon. I noticed that the woman next to me had a glowing Tinkerbell on her wine....i needed to have one. Just ask the bartender at whatever bar you're at. It's an extra $5, but so worth a cute little souvenir. Out of all the things i brought home, this is the thing that keeps getting stolen by friends and family.
Tinkerbell helped us end a great night!
