NEW Just got home! Feb 11-16 DDP with PICTURES.

Loving your reviews!! Yum!! :cool1:

One thing though... the noodles at Kona looked sexy?!! Really?!! Yowza!!! :rolleyes1

I had to read that sentence 8 times, just to make sure you really said the noodles were sexy, but not too complex. It's an intriguing sentence!!!

:yay:

Ya they didn't look too sexy, but i lost my thesaurus the other day and i was lacking descriptive words...lol.

The Clam Bake buffet looks really good so does your Kona meal, hope DF felt better soon :goodvibes

ME:

#8 Garden Galley Salad - Mixed greens with chicken, pecans, pineapple and feta cheese.
Apple Crisp - Apple Crisp.
Lemonade

I was actually pleasantly surprised. Normally i have the veggie sandwich and soup combo, but this day i was feeling salady. The combination of pineapple and feta was a little odd, but it worked. The salad also came with a bunch of dressing options. I opted for the Olive Oil Vinagrette which was great. Much better than the normal Ranch/Italian/Blue Cheese offerings. By the time i got to the apple crisp it was quite cold. S'ok though cause again i was too full to worry about it.

DF:

#2 Fried Chicken Strips - Served with choice of French fries or apple slices.
Apple Crisp - Apple Crisp.
Sprite

DF picked at this plate. She felt that chicken strips might be ok for her troubled tummy. She said they were good, average fried fare. I tried the chips, they were pretty good too. She didn't finish her apple crisp either.

Thank you so much for the great reviews! Would you be able to post your awesome pic of the chicken strips on all the angry chicken finger/ strip threads? Your picture seems to be the most recent photo of the chicken finger scandal. Maybe it might make some people feel better?

Chicken finger scandal?! What Chicken finger scandal??

there have been some recent posts about changes to the chicken strips, many people are very upset about this.

The large, extremely delicious Chicken Fingers that were sold at Disney Parks & resorts for at least a decade have been discontinued and replaced with smaller nuggety-type pieces within the last few weeks. It's pretty much causing an uproar. Check the restaurant boards for all the threads and complaints. I was bummed until I saw your pic. They don't look too bad. I was wondering if you could spread some not so bad news around?

Valentine's Day was our "day off" of the parks. We decided to spend the day walking around Downtown Disney and have some lunch at the Earl of Sandwich. I had always thought the Earl was a chain, i was distressed to know that the only store is in WDW. I normally do not like sandwiches, but there is just something about the freshness of the ingredients, the crusty bread, and the warming that just gives me chills!

Earl of Sandwich is a chain. They have locations in: California, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Nevada and Texas.

Well, don't i just suck then? I thought i had looked it up for my trip to Georgia and found nothing, OH WELL life goes on right?

I'm loving your food reports! I'm planning an upcoming trip and hadn't planned on any of your restaurants, but after the reviews and delicious pictures, we may have to try some of the same restaurants.

Side note. I just noticed that Earl of Sandwich is opening up TWO places in my hometown! I can't wait!! How exciting!:thumbsup2

Our last day in the parks! I couldn't have been more bummed. We started the day off at Animal Kingdom. It was a beautiful sunny day and we both got a little sunburned, which i'm sure didn't help DF feel any better. After the Flight of Wonder show (fave!) we headed to the new-ish Yak and Yeti Local Food Cafe. I had heard good things about the actually restaurant so i figured this was a good choice, especially since AK's counter service selection is pretty limited. I refuse to eat McDonald's most of the time, let alone on vacation.

The first problem we ran into was the line up. It was a little ridiculous. We all know Disney has this way that they have 2 lines for every cashier. Usually this works pretty well and keeps the line moving.....here, it did not. At all. We waited, in the sun, for 45 minutes. See what i'll go through not to eat pizza or McDonald's??! Anyway, DF and i wanted the same thing again...so i ended up going with something different. Just for you people! So i hope you appreciate it, cause it was terrible! lol.

ME:

First attempt: Kung Pao Beef - Kung pao beef over sticky rice.
Second attempt: Shrimp Lo Mein - Lo mein noodles with shrimp.
Frozen Lemonade - Dessert.
Fruit Punch

(Left: Kung Pao Beef) This was the grossest, nastiest thing i've ever eaten in WDW. Slimey, fatty beef, onions and peppers. The sauce was alright. If it wasn't for the terrible quality of the beef (worse than taco bell!) it could've been an ok dish. I obviously took this back. The manager on duty appologized and offered me a replacement, i chose the Shrimp Lo Mein. How could noodles go wrong? Read on, you'll see....
(Right: Shrimp Lo Mein) Again, nasty. Overcooked (or over heat-lamped) noodles smothered in soy sauce with some cocktail shrimp tossed on top. Bad, so very bad. The frozen lemonade was great and refreshing. The fruit punch was also a nice change from the typical soda line up. I will not go back.

DF:

Crispy Honey Chicken - Crispy honey chicken over sticky rice.
Frozen Lemonade - Dessert.
Fruit Punch

DF's lunch wasn't as terrible as mine, but it defintely wasn't great. The "Honey Chicken" was pretty much chicken nuggets (looked a lot like they could've been from McDonald's) with honey drizzled on top. Don't get me wrong, i finished off her chicken in lew of my other 2 attempts at having something not disgusting for lunch. lol.

After a dismal lunch i was absolutely looking forward to one of my fave spots for dinner, San Angel Inn Restaurante in Mexico, EPCOT. We left AK still hungry and headed to EP. Longest bus ride ever! lol. The buses seemed to be a little off this year. I think i already mentioned that....anyway. Big disappointment: We missed Soarin. I just won't wait in line for 155 minutes. Can't, shan't.

We walked into Mexico and were immediately seated. The only thing about eating at Mexico with only 2, you usually get shoved in corner, or against a wall. The view is a bit lacking from 2 top tables. We chowed down on our nachos and salsa right away. Once again, DF and i ended up ordering the same thing. What can i say? Great minds think alike!

Sopa Azteca - Traditional tortilla soup with avocado, cheese and pasilla pepper.
Carne Asada Tampiquena - Grilled beef tenderloin served with a chicken enchilada topped with ranchera sauce, esquites and black refried beans.
Vanilla Ice Cream - topped with Mexican milk caramel.

Soooo good. This is why i come to Mexico year after year. This soup is delish. DF ordered it purely because of my cravings since we checked in to OKW.

Once again, a beautifully cooked steak. I have never eaten as much red meat is Dis as i did this year. They just do it so well. I'm also a sucker for Enchiladas. This is the real reason i tried this dish. MMM, corn tortillas.

Way too full to think about dessert, DF and i both settled on vanilla ice cream.

We left Mexico completely full, and completely satisfied. We just had one more place to go before we headed home for the night. The Rose N Crown for one last Welsh Dragon. I noticed that the woman next to me had a glowing Tinkerbell on her wine....i needed to have one. Just ask the bartender at whatever bar you're at. It's an extra $5, but so worth a cute little souvenir. Out of all the things i brought home, this is the thing that keeps getting stolen by friends and family.

Tinkerbell helped us end a great night!

Sorry your friend was ill, hope she was feeling better soon. Great reviews, shame about the Yak and Yeti - I was hoping it would be a good alternative as AK doesn't seem to have many places to eat. I LOVE Earl of Sandwich - and it's one of the few places on property where you can get Cherry Coke!

Laur's princess:

WOO CHERRY COKE! I agree. Awesomeness. Also, if anyone is interested, San Angel Inn in Mexico is one of the only places i've ever been is the Dis where you can get sweet tea.

Thanks for posting your reviews ... may I just say that you've inspired me to try a Welsh Dragon the next time the opportunity presents itself? :goodvibes

Loved your reviews! Just wondering how I managed to gain 5 pounds when I haven't eaten a thing!!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl2: Hope your friend's feeling better - it sucks being sick on vacation.

Our very last day. The very sadest day of the trip. The bus wasn't taking us to the airport until 1:30p so DF and i decided we needed one more trip to the Earl of Sandwich before we headed home to the world of sub-par food.

We took the water taxi to the Marketplace, took one more look around, made some final purchases and made our way to the Earl. I decided to try something different this time, i was not disappointed.

ME:

The Ultimate Grilled Cheese - Swiss, bree and blue cheeses with applewood bacon and tomato. (I had it minus the blue cheese)
Cup Cakes - Vanilla.
Cherry Coke

DSC002410010.jpg

My new favorite! Wonderful cheesy sandwich. The cheese just oozed and stretched as i picked it up for the first bite. I didn't get the blue cheese because honestly, i find blue cheese disgusting. lol. Kind of like eating dusty mold. The cupcake was fab as usual, however, a little too large! Cherry coke as usual. As was pointed out by a previous poster, this is one of the only places onsite that offers the stuff.

DF:

Le Frenchy - Ham with creamy French Brie and dijonaise sauce.
Chips - Miss Vicki's Sea Salt and Vinegar Chips
Sprite

DSC002440012.jpg

DF was still feeling ill, so she wasn't really diggin the sandwich. She was sure it had nothing to do with the sammy itself, but the fact that her tummy was jumpin all over the place. I'm sure it was good. EAT AT THE EAR OF SANDWICH! lol....

Thus ends my trip, and my eating adventure. I hope you guys have enjoyed reading this as much as i enjoyed writing them! Looking forward to next year when i can go to restaurants and have people look at me funny for taking pictures of my food!

Good luck, and good eats.

What is a welsh dragon? Sounds tasty!

No idea what is in it for sure, but i believe there is orange juice, peppermint schnapps (just a tad) and melon liqueur...and probably lots of other stuff too.
